I just reupholstered 4 MCM chairs and literally looked at about 500 different fabrics before picking one. I found some beautiful mid-century designs that I loved, but ultimately ended up going a slightly more practical route. I found some awesome orange microsuede, which is a bit less fun than the mid-century prints but looks great and will hold up well. Plus, you can find it in all different colors, so they still have a little pizzazz!

What a fun, inviting home. I live in Somerville, too...wish they'd take me furniture shopping!

I'm a huge fan of Billy Balls, also known as craspedia. They're little yellow balls on long green stems and bring some good sunshine into my house. Whether you put them in water or leave them in an empty vase, they dry into a nice mustardy color and last for several months. These are really popular in a lot of AT homes, and I can see why! I treat myself to a new batch every 3 months or so and just pop a handful into a vase or cool vintage bottle for a fun burst of color around my house.

I live about 1.5 miles from work, and could easily take the subway 1 stop, but instead I walk to and from work. It's one of my favorite parts of the day, because I'm forced to have some ME time, step away from the email, and let my mind wander. Getting to move my body at the start and end of the day also doesn't hurt!

Although I love a good DIY project, I'm always hesitant to paint something that old, especially if it's in decent condition. Once you've painted it, you can't go back to the original finish. With pieces that are over 50 years old, my general rule is that I'm only allowed to sand and re-stain it, but no paint. I have an amazing secretary from my grandfather that is a little heavy and dark for my taste, but I've come to appreciate it over the last few years. I think the original wood finish is much more timeless than the white paint, and in 5 or 10 years, you'll be really happy that you didn't paint it.

Everything about this home is warm and welcoming. The mix of styles and colors is really well done. I find that many apartments have a little too much personality (think Grandmother's basement or a fleamarket), or not quite enough (think Ikea showroom), but this is so lovely. Their personalities absolutely come through, but in a way that seems completely natural and authentic. Their apartment represents everything I've been aiming for, but they've accomplished it much better than I have, and in only two months! Lovely home.

I can totally commiserate. I moved in about a month ago and am starting to feel good about the living room, kitchen, dining room. When I walk into my bedroom, I just feel disappointed and overwhelmed. Maybe it's because a bedroom is so intimate and personal, there's much more pressure to create a space that really feels like YOU. My plan for the weekend is to take a few baby steps...I'll put my new duvet on the bed, go hunting for some new artwork, and we'll see what happens. Good luck!
