We have an open three-story staircase with open risers and no balusters. We call it the stairs of death. We hired a professional baby proofer (we were afraid to tackle it ourselves) to install lexan, which is thin bullet proof "glass," behind the risers and along the banisters. It has worked out well. Everyone is alive and we still have the open look. But we still worried that our kids might try to jump over one of the landings so we have made a point of never letting them play on the stairs. We had gates at every floor but have recently removed all but the one on their bedroom floor. I think they get that they can't fool around on them, and we are hopeful that we will will be able to remove the lexan in a few years.

Greetings from Philly. I cannot tell you how exciting it is to find your crib on AT today. The crib turned out amazing. Jonathan, Gus and I are in awe and we forwarded the link to some other Testa folks so they can admire your talent as well. I hope we will have the chance to see you, Jen and Henry soon. Take care.
