I am always impressed by the things people do with small spaces. In my opinion, it takes far more design ability and creativity to make a small space work than it does with a large space. PAINT!!!!! I agree with many of the other posts about selecting a color that will complemnt the countertop-if you're not replacing it. I like the ideas of gray, black, or taupe. My plan would probably be to make them look as good as possible until I could afford to replace them with something more updated. I'd pretty much do anything to get rid of the country style!
