one more for binder clips, except we call them bulldog clips, I only found out last week that other people don't call them that.

I can see it being used for other stuff but not pie! It's annoying enough to get the dough into a big round plate, can you imagine the time it would take to get it just right... ack.

Surfas in Culver City (CA) has them, but not online for some reason.

I made it according to the recipe with two changes, hand chopped bittersweet chocolate and fleur de sel on top. The cookies didn't puff at all, even with the cake flour. I was initially a little alarmed at how much they were browning, but they were still soft on the inside.

I think the fleur de sel added a lot, although my teenaged neighbor made a hilarious face at his first taste of salt with sweet! Everyone who tested them for me agreed they were the best they'd ever had and a couple of people asked for the recipe.

I think on your huskies it should be amazing. My dog is a lab-x but he has almost no undercoat, he's a little wiry, and it works but it's not blow-your-mind or anything.

Lending my support to the dirt eaters! The anti-bacterial people act like they're protecting the "precious children" from the ravages of the bubonic plague. I had a couple of colds as a kid and somehow survived.

sasquatch brings up a question I've had for a couple of weeks. I have a wool rug that suddenly started smelling like rubber tires!! Why? I've had the rug for 3 years and it's quite nice and from a reputable rug dealer. Anyone know?

I vote for the two couch setup. I think sectionals are kind of looking dated and the two couches have the most flexibility now and for the future. Plus, it looks less like a room for TV watching. What are you going to do with the corner near the TV?

I thought it might make a great gift for my dad's 60th but it's still $6000 $650 for the cover! I love it though.

I have a grill just like the one in the photo. It worked fine on my old electric stove and my last apartment's gas stove... but my new apartment's gas stove is a nightmare. The flames come up the sides and it doesn't really work at all, it feels like it's going to set the whole kitchen on fire. I can't figure out what the difference is from the old stove or how to fix it. Any ideas?

I don't hate small dogs! I'm just saying that in my experience if it's a barker the neighbors will tune it out. There's a large dog in our neighborhood that's a barker too and it's equally ineffective. But around here (LA) the ratio of large barkers to small is probably about 1:30.

All the little dogs I know bark every twenty seconds... when a dog walks past, when the mail comes, when a leaf falls off a tree. I'm totally immune the the barking of my neighbor's dog, but when my big lab-x barks, about once a week, people notice.

One good story and one bad:

When I was in photography school I did a project about dioramas and wanted to shoot at the Smithsonian... I was totally stressed but decided to wing it. I asked the info desk if it was ok and the security guard practically helped me set up my tripod and 4x5 camera. They were SO nice, really surprisingly so.

Last year I went to a wedding that wouldn't allow photography! It made me dislike the bride and groom (so not celebrities or anything). I know it's the official photographer's directive but I found it so rude. Way to make the day relaxed and fun.

I'm glad to know more about the law on this subject though, I'm going to photograph with impunity now! thanks!

How about flooding the whole area with smooth little pebbles (pea gravel?) like a french garden? Then if you can hide the retaining wall with planters or a drooping vine from the top it would look much more natural. Also some trees in large planters or a pergola would be great.

What about extending the kitchen further into the bedroom? You could extend the bathroom wall out and make an eating area/pantry where the closet is now. When you expand the bathroom wall you can build a new closet. Then open up the current kitchen into the new space. I think it would seem more intentional and less like a pass through.. plus who needs a seventeen foot long bedroom?

why does everyone get so annoyed when someone lives in a fanciful way? Homes like this are the kinds of places I imagined as a kid.. I wish I could keep that feeling all the time too, even if it's not practical.
