Weekend Breakfast Recipe: The Apple Pancake
3/10/12 11:06 AM

Here's my rule of thumb. Before I try the recipe, I don't write it down. I will have the recipe tagged in Pinterest, or elsewhere ( I used to use delicious before something happen to it). Once I make the recipe few times and I think it will be a recipe I'll use over time, I write down the recipe in a moleskin notebook.

I got the idea from this post: http://www.deliciousdays.com/archives/2007/06/24/how-to-organize-recipes/

Our home we bought almost 2 years ago has a 24 inch range. If you want to cook using all four burners, you have to be creative. And I don't imagine cooking a turkey anytime soon, but it probably not work well in that tiny oven.

I made these yesterday -- using leftover gyoza fillings (basically all same ingredients). It came out greeeaat! Thank you. I froze the rest in Freezer bag. To defrost, put the bao under water for a second, saran wrap and microwave! Thanks Kitchn!

You can never go wrong with books.

I always give the same gift -- Eric Carle's Animal Flash Cards (about $11 from Amazon.com) and an outfit.

Mix 1tbsp of miso with equal amount of water and sugar. Sauté zucchini with veg oil till cooked and browned, throw in the mixture, cook till liquid is almost gone.

You can always marinade protein w miso too. Dilute w water or sake and let it sit. Clean off miso before grilling/broiling.

I made Boozy Baked French Toast from Smitten Kitchen and it was a hit (sans the booze, used vanilla essense instead). It was easy and quick to put together the night before, and even easier in the morning (30 minutes in the oven!).

My mother leaves whole red pepper (togarashi) in the rice bin to keep bugs out. Does this has to be fresh bay leaves or is dry ok too?

Grated daikon on pork chops, steak is always good with a very little drizzle of soy sauce or even better, ponzu sauce.

I usually use canned heart of palm to make a refreshing salad with cucumber and tomato. Cut them in coins, mix with peeled & cut cucumber slices and tomatoes, lemon juice, olive oil and salt & pepper.

Funny you should ask because my last kitchen wound is just in recovery. I was about to chop lengthwise a mini-cucumber when the chef's knife sliped off the back (the shiny part) of the cucumber and landed into my left index pointy finger. With blood and pain, I did take myself to ER and waited an hour and half only to have the would be butterflied by the doc.

Microplane has done some damage to my nails and hands as well, but that happens more often and less painful than the above experience.
