Nothing says "it's business time" like a conference table in the bedroom. Also, low windows are something easily overcome. Our Lafayette Park home is encased by windows in every room(bathrooms not included)--no biggie.

I try to avoid Ikea furniture but I see no value in buying knock-offs because they are made of God-knows-what (VOC's anyone?). I have a few Herman Miller DCM's and all of them together cost less than one new chair. Buy vintage and let someone who can afford to do so take the hit on the initial depreciation.

Also profound differences in quality. Furniture from Denmark was thoughtfully designed properly built for a lifetime of use. Furniture from China barely survives the manufacturing process and is generally not going to do much for your home air quality either. I guess we could thank China for democratizing the home furniture market and McDonald's for expanding the American palette.

The love-hate issue with these frames is that they used to be solid wood. I have a few of the older solid frames but the moment I saw the new frames I knew they were junk.

I guess that the Terrence Woodgate Sussex credenza for $150 was my best find so far.

I just bought a gorgeous little table on Craigslist tat meets some of your criteria. I paid $50 and it even has the knoll-esque beveled edge. For $500 I'd build you one, cover it in gold leaf and pay for white glove delivery.

LOL. Same television on the same credenza. Also against a painted (green) wall in an otherwise white room. I do like the ideal of a piece of glass on the top of that credenza. I've never seen veneer so thin.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll have to hone my photography skills.

I know that by now the 'Keep Calm' posters and variations have made the rounds but it is still an apt message for Detroiters who face a barrage of negative publicity and keep striving to improve Detroit. I actually re-purposed the original poster myself and and had them printed in Detroit.

Thanks again everyone!

I've ordered four already but I would love to see a poster for DETROIT! The Spirit of Detroit and/or the Fischer Building would be gorgeous.

@jessws61's--Detroit may be suffering but strength never comes by any other means. Also, remember that the extent to which you disparage Detroit, you disparage Michigan.

The chair is working very well and the love of my life likes it too so I LOVE it! Now to find a matching chair [glances at the DCM in M. Cole's kitchen]. I tried to describe how cool your home is to her and now you've shared it with the world. Thanks!

Looks great. Ironically, I just bought a DCM from you a couple of weeks ago. Truly a great space!
