Thanks for the feedback, everyone! (And thanks for the shout out, Carrie.) This is exactly the kind of feedback I love to read, real words from real live teachers!

You're right, megatroid, the mousepad might have to go.

In my defense, I have always recommended gift cards (like in the first sentences of the linked post to and in my previous post on teacher gifts) because I know the down side of a teacher's budget (my dad was a professor). I try to stick with classroom supplies and consumables and steer clear of popsicle sticks, to keep it green and guilt free if the teacher doesn't want to take it home and save it forever!!

And to all you teachers, and extra THANK YOU from me. I'm a huge fan.

Love all these great ideas, in fact, I had to share them this morning on my blog. My kiddos loved quiet books or plush kits at this age (saw some fun ones here), or anything that involved a big pocket and lots of little things they could put in and take back out. These were also great for me b/c I could take them anywhere to keep my kids busy.

Thanks, Sarah! I'm so flattered. And it's true, I went a little nuts on my father's day posts this year!

for preschool the last couple years we like to go in on gifts with other parents too. we've done spa days and restaurant gift cards for the teacher's bday, but at the end of the year we've tried to make it something from the kids. last year the kids all painted a big planter which we gave with a shrub (our teacher has a lot of property), this year we gave a personalized platter (posted here ). At the end of the year I think it's nice to do either something from the kids or gifts that can get used up. Here are a few other quick ideas.

My daughter is 6 and has taken Suzuki violin since she was 4. The first year and a half were tough, but as she's noticed lately that she can learn songs and perform for classmates, we've seen a sudden surge of empowerment with her. Suddenly she's announced she wants to learn sewing and Spanish and wants to "cook things and build things." So now the trick is trying to keep from overbooking our schedule so she still gets down time.

I used Blurb to slurp my blog from blogger and got a fantastic book last September. My friends went to try it a couple months later and found that Blurb no longer supports Blogger, only LiveJournal or TypePad. What a sad day. (If any one wants to start a petition to blurb and blogger, I'll sign!) I had one friend temporarily transfer her blog to TypePad and slurp from there, which worked. But it adds a lot of hassle for busy moms!

Pretty much the whole time I'm pregnant, I could wear an apron. From month 5 on it seems like my tummy catches everything!

Love this article and will certainly be passing it on. I couldn't agree more. This past Christmas friends of ours received tickets to see Miracle on 34th St live in San Francisco from a very cool aunt. A family memory is such a great gift.

great intriguing post. no question that peer groups matter. so do siblings. but there's also no question that a great parent really matters.

i agree with stickyricemama. great parents often have some influence on their child's peer group.

interested to read more, and get to know her background after buddhabellysmum's comment.

the plastic jars look great and affordable. I found some similar jars at the $1 store I use in my pantry.

to k8theriver—I keep most of my kids art supplies high in a closet and rotate them out to my kids table. It seems to keep the mess down and keep them trying new things. I posted about it recently:

wow. they turned out beautifully. i think this might have to be my next step. i experimented with chocolate homemade marshmallows with my kids to do post for a S'mores gift kit, and they turned out great and firm and mmm, chocolaty. I'd like to try adding chocolate to martha's piping marshmallow recipe. yea! Thanks.
