God i was really hoping for a lot more with this article. Trying to find a good bedside clock with dual alarms and a radio is near impossible. Vers 1.5r is the best i have found and its indefinitely back-ordered.

Question, Has anybody out there found a dock that can connect ipod to their A/V reciever? I have been looking for ages for a simple Iphone dock that will connect via the base of the iphone and will have an RCA output and maybe even a charge function too. I don't know why its been so hard to find.

I have my PS3 set up with a logitech Harmony remote and that PS3 attachment thingy which makes the whole system very GF freindly (we live together). I have all our music, a lot of video, Netflix on the PS3. i probably play 3 hrs of Video games a week (more when shes on a business trip) I also use the PS3 to surf the internet and look up guitar tabs. I think its an extremely easy to use and set up especially with the logitech harmony one.

My Weekly PS3 usage:

Music - ~20 hours
Netflix 1 or 2 movies
Games 3 hrs
Internet 1-2 hrs generally for guitar tabs

Ansela, wake up, loads of adults like playing video games. its exactly the same as watching TV i would warrant that a problem solving video game is much more mentally stimulating than E! the real housewives of somewhere.

The following is a rant;
At what point did video games become so sad? Where did that come from? you know all those geeks people made fun of for staying inside and playing video games now all work in Bluechip companies and earn 6 figures. I have always played them and i was a college athlete and am now a successful professional. I mean its just odd that people can stare at crappy TV for hours and that s 'cool' but as soon as you play a video game its childish and sad...?

Yeah it really doesn't work that well and takes a really long time. i found one way which works but takes a long time.
Cut 2 holes on either side (length ways) of the top of the water mellon. insert funnel deep into one end, fill with vodka. leave the other hole open. This is essentially transpiration; how plants take up water by evaporation but with vodka. takes about 3 days. but for a day of go for the vodka watermellon smoothie as mentioned above

probably no one will read this since i'm posting months after the original post but what the hell. i have been making pasta for about a month now and it has turned into a bit of an obsession.
1st key point - Use a mixture of Tipo 00 flour and semolina flour. the ratio i use depends on how much of each one i have left.
2nd - weight your eggs. People talk about this alot but here's the secret. get a digital scale crack 1 egg into a bowl then add 1 egg yolk. weigh it. The amount of flour you need is 1.9* egg weight.
3- use a food processor. i have a tiny little kitchen aid one which can only take 1egg yolk and ~125grams of flour. this turns out to be the perfect amount to roll out.
Just put the food processor on grind or whatever and pulse it until it morphs into one big blob.
4- for drying. i cut my pasta then put it out on the table spread out on paper towls. works like a charm.

For gods sake will u eco nazis chill the hell out. you're probably wasting just as much electricity voicing your opinions to the blogosphere as this thing is.

Christ, you lot are worse than Rush.

This is a cool piece of design, of course you have to heat the water but the rest of it is pretty sweet.
Its compact, looks good, innovative design and probably make a pretty good cup of coffee. Perfect for someone who doesn't drink coffee by the gallon. or not willing to spend $1000 on a espresso machine.

no its not going to solve CC but its only a coffee maker give it a break

yeah i mean i just plug mine in to the router using an ethernet cable. not a problem for me as my router is in my media console. personally i think the one big problem with the PS3 is the crap internet browser and lack of RAM which makes streaming content from hulu and stuff really hard. if only you could get boxee on it without having to put playon through a 3rd party PC. I don't have a desktop.

@chaal

I have the fluance center channel ($70) but its quite big for a small place. Wharfedale, polk and yamaha also do good ones for around the $100 mark. IF oyu have digital cable you should be able to out put the sound from the box to the reciever. IF the reciever has and HDMI cable input and then an HDMI output to the tv you can run the whole thign with only one wire. For rear speakers these are really not that important as they only produce background noise and the ocasional bulet or doorbell. I have Wharfedale Wh-2 which i think were $60 for a pair! Wireless ones are more expensive. Buy a decent 2.1 and then see what moeny you have left over. TimLA is really right a nice pair of front towers like B&Ws will really change how you listen to music and movies is quite amazing.

@myoming you will need something to power the speakers and thus need an amp...unless they are computer speakers and then i don't know about that.

depending on your receiver you can out put your tv sound from the tv through the receiver . Do you have cable? if so then it goes straight from cable box to receiver.

I don;t have cable; i put the coaxial (for standard local TV, nbc, abc etc) into the back of the tv. I then have an optical cable running to my receiver for the sound. if you don;t have an optical you can probably use and rca cable (the red and white ones). Both of these work if sound is going from cable box too.

You can buy a simple Iphone stand that has a standard serial (headphone style) end that will plug into the aux part of your receiver.

If you want good sound from the TV you should buy a center channel speaker ($100) which is where all the TV dialog comes out of (the side speakers are for music and effects). Same goes for a sub, and it won't annoy the neighbors if your just watching tv or movies. If you turn the music up to 11 it may get a bit loud

Presumably you have a wireless router..? IF so just plug the tv Ethernet into the router...this is for netflix and you tube right..?

No idea about the airport express i don't own any apple products

Interesting article but there are a few points i would add.
1st - Universal remote. get the Logitech Harmony One all others pale in comaprison and you can pick them up for less than $200 i've seen them available at $150
2nd - The PS3 is fantastic especially now netflix is on bored but save money on the 'big' hardrive version and replace the harddrive with a 500GB or 1TB (its just a lapttop harddrive)
3rd - Don't believe the hype on expensive cables.
4th - check out Fluance speakers www.fluance.com incredible value for money. .hint...they also have an ebay page where you can pick them up even cheaper
5th - $348 for a sub..really?! i mean i'm sure it looks pretty and all but for just 4 extra inches bigger in size you can get a Polk 10inch sub for $100.

ok rant over, peace
