i actually don't have a shower where i live now and personally i don't miss it because i'm not a huge bath person (i get bored just sitting there and the water gets too cold too fast), we're renovating a new place that i'm going to be renting from my parents and i told my dad that i would be fine without a bathtub but that i wanted the shower to be large enough for a small bench so i could sit in it and scrub let the water beat down on me since i find that more relaxing (plus the water never gets cold in a shower, well unless you use it all up, but now there are those tankless water heaters)...of course, my best friend is horrified by my idea, but she's a *major* bath person...honestly though, i doubt that bathtubs will ever be completely gone...

here's another vote for the old school hot water bottle!

i fill it up and either stick it down by my toes which is just lovely (until the cat starts attacking my feet, heh.)

but, i have to say, if you take the hot water bottle and put it right over your heart, it's even better. i swear that warms me up super fast every single time. i think it must warm up the blood that pumps through your heart before it goes racing through your body.

comments got a little TLDR but i did want to say that if you're trying to clean a large-ish silver something use a little toothpaste and a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush for intricate areas. then rinse it off in water and dry it. i have this really awesome silver tray that was practically black and in less than an hour it was gleaming!

Household Cleaning Urban Myths: Do They Actually Work?

@awallnut FYI my friend's cat fell out of a second story window and died...after having about 4 hours of siezures at the vets office while they tried to save her before finally having to put her to sleep. so really i think everyone who is saying that it's not such a big deal if the cat falls needs to either get off this thread or be more helpful.

i also have a problem with a cat who climbs screens. i think though that the idea of using some chicken wire would be feasable with relatively few holes being made in the walls/window frames. or you can do what my parents did. they measured their windows and french doors and created framed screens. (basically chickenwire inside of maybe 1x1 or2x2 pieces of wood that sloted into the windows, kept the cats from escaping very well. good luck!

when my parents wanted to buy a house up the street (and next door to two other tiny houses they already owned) they couldn't put in as large of an offer as a couple of other people. one was another neighbor and the other a man who openly told the sellers that he planned to tear down the house to build a much larger one. the neighbors who had an offer in called the seller and said they would withdraw their bid if he sold to my parents. the other neighbors also told the seller they would prefer to have my parents live there. and what do you know? the seller went with my parents! i think it helped that they'd been keeping an eye on the sellers great aunt who was living there while afflicted with dimentia and that my parents kept telling him how much they loved the house as it was and didn't plan to change it very much (aside from making the kitchen larger, which his aunt would have liked). now my sister and i live in the tiny houses next door to our parents. we love our neighbors :)

when i was in college i left my stuff in a storage unit one summer, i was in LA it was in NY. there was a huge storm in NY and lots of reports of flooding so i called and asked the company if the ground floor (where my unit was) had any water issues, they said that there had been no problems with flooding, a month and a half later when i finally got there and picked up the box with all of my bedding and coats only to find it soggy, i was seriously annoyed and trying to get them to pay out on my insurance was a total nightmare.

so...lessons learned...
1. if you have your things in a storage unit and there is a heavy rainstorm, do *NOT* take their word for it that your unit wasn't flooded, go and check yourself or have a friend check.

1a. if you're leaving your stuff in a different city or state, make sure someone there has an extra key and can check on it for you.

2. never take a ground floor unit.

for those suggesting green walls just remember that all that color reflects onto your skin. green walls will make you look TERRIBLE, basically it seems to suck any pink tones from your skin and leave you looking grey...i had a green bathroom in college, never again.
