Gorgeous plants and greenery! They add so much to the life & soul of this apartment. I also love all the textiles.

These are definitely the greenest-thumbed people ever in an AT House Tour... Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful space!

Thanks for sharing your newly-wed home! Definitely cherish this special time in your lives together. Making a first home in a small space can be way more fun, creative, and rewarding than decorating some giant, luxe dream apartment with money to burn.

Your nest looks cozy and personal, and I admire how you've made the limited space work for you. The living room rug is wonderful, by the way, and so is the little lamp in the old-school telephone nook. The shoji screen in the bedroom looks just fine to me.

It's amazing how spacious it feels for just 480 square feet!

Would absolutely love to see a full House Tour plan of the overall apartment layout.

You've nailed the English country house look! The cobalt wall color is gorgeous. It's great when people have the guts to use bold color in small spaces. What paint did you use?

Clearly, this is the home of someone who's deeply knowledgeable and passionate about antiques. Wonderfully individual and stylish. I love the mix of rich & mellow colors and the sure-handed layering of different textures.

AT, please consider a follow-up house tour (and a sketch of the overall layout)!

Beautiful! Your house tour exudes elbow grease, loving care, thoughtful planning, and personal style.

I especially love that rug in your bedroom. The color is so rich, and it proves that classic Turkish/Oriental rugs in a modern space can be stunning.

Clearly, Apartment Therapy needs an official Philadelphia outpost! More, please...

First, I post stuff on my local Freecycle. If I don't get any responses there, I make a trip to Goodwill!

For old (clean) towels, sheets, and blankets, I always donate them to the SPCA.

Fun, quirky, colorful, and unapologetically home-y. It's got a lot of charm and personality. Looks like a great place for having friends over for casual dinners and just hanging out. My only wish for this (and most) house tours: a floor plan so we could visualize the entire layout.

Thanks so much for sharing your place!

An amazing space. It feels real, personal, creative, lived-in. It doesn't feel staged, curated, or oozing with crazy amounts of money. Thank you for sharing this.

It's always refreshing when AT presents a house tour that isn't rife with the same old stale Dwell-y/MidCenMod/Room & Board/DWR crud.

"Matthew's loft in the Chapman building eludes original architectural details from the year the building was constructed."

"Eludes"?

Whatever you decide, take your time. Buy one piece at a time and live with it for a while before you make your next decision. Let your space grow slowly, in an organic way.

And please consider keeping your new place relatively spare! It's so beautiful. Too much stuff (even really awesome stuff) will spoil it.

(I'm not advocating total minimalism... just resist the temptation to fill it with stuff.)

A housewarming is for welcoming your friends into your new place. It's not for scoring new stuff.

A plate of homemade cookies, a bottle of wine, a six-pack of beer, or a bunch of flowers are appropriate house-warming gifts. If someone wants to bring something more -- a small household item like a corkscrew or some fancy soap for a bathroom -- that's fine... but it should be that guest's decision, not the host's.

Registering for a housewarming is tacky and ungracious and super-awkward all around!

we got rid of cable two years ago and have never looked back. We saved a ton of money, and Hulu Netflix give us plenty of great stuff to watch. Another benefit: we now watch a lot less TV than we used to... more time for real life.

Yes, sometimes it's mildly annoying to miss a show you really want to see, but 99% of the time, I really don't care.

love all the color choices! warm and beautiful and very much showing the owners' personalities. and that morroccan lamp is a show-stopper.

Figs: you guys are clearly wonderful and caring pet owners... that fabulous cat tree must make your kitty very happy.

This house tour is unlike any I've seen before on AT. It's refreshing and thought-provoking to see something so different from the norm.

Karla clearly puts a lot of thought and love into her home. There's a poetic simplicity here that we rarely see on AT. (We often see contemporary/MCM-style minimalism on AT, but Karla's aesthetic is something else entirely.)

There's something about this home that stirs people's emotions. It makes me think of a Tennessee Williams play -- something delicately beautiful, ephemeral, and inward-looking. It's a perfect haven from the world.

Karla, thanks so much for sharing. Your home is exquisite and unique. AT, this is a great tour.

Alison and Jeff, your home is just beautiful! I especially love your kitchen and dining room; both spaces are so gracious and live-able.

One question: how recently did you get that CB2 light that hangs over the dining room table? I'm looking on the website but can't find it. (I rent and would love to find a modern, affordable overhead light that I can install without any wiring hassles.) Does CB2 still sell yours?

Thanks!

Thanks for showing us this great home. Regarding the tour itself, there were some lovely pix, but next time please include fewer close-ups of cute stuff and more photos that show entire rooms/layout.

what a unique and lovely space. reading the backstory made it especially interesting. sounds like a complete transformation.

i really like the tiles in the bathroom and also the ones on the kitchen wall. and i covet your built-in bookcases; they are so wonderfully functional and also frame the space beautifully.

if you just like books as design props, then go ahead and stack 'em on the floor.

but if you actually want to read them, it's not such a great idea. stacking like that damages them.
