I love the curtains and have been looking for some just like that. Where are they from?

Thanks Hinke! They haven't answered any of the emails that I sent, but I will try those numbers.

Thanks!

Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Garden Call: Yves Saint-Laurent's Jardin Majorelle

I posted on here awhile ago about this blue paint (long story short- I'm obsessed with it). Domino had a piece about the garden that said that the gift shop sold the paint. Unfortunately, the phone number they gave for the giftshop does not appear to be correct. Short of flying to Marrakesh (which I am considering doing) has anyone had any luck reaching them?

Take your time. I went to 143 open houses (seriously), because I thought that was the best way to see what was out there and get a sense of what things were worth. I knew that we wanted to stay in the same neighborhood that we had lived in for six years, so every Sunday I looked at every apartment in a broad price range around our own price range. It's a good way to figure out what is available and what you actually want/need.

As a result, when we saw the place that we are now living in, we knew immediately that it was priced fairly and that it had what we were looking for.

My other advice is to buy a place because you want to live in it (ideally for a looong time) not because you think it is a good investment. We bought in early '07 when the market (in Brooklyn) was extremely strong, but we have no regrets, not only because our place was reasonably priced, but because we love living here. We have a backyard and a woodburning fireplace. We are never leaving. That (and again- we got a good deal) really insulates us a lot from the stresses of the market.

Good luck!!!

Seconded on the orange chair. I'm in the middle of designing a reading nook for our downstairs and that chair would be perfect.

The rope chairs are fabulous! I am looking for something to put in a reading nook, and was wondering if you think those would work. I originally was thinking armchair, but am also a bit too afraid of NY's bedbug issues.

I have several antique Syrian wooden mosiac tables that I clean with olive oil. It is very gentle and they look beautiful afterwards. In fact, I suspect that I have just given myself a task for this afternoon, damnit.

The Arab Table by May Bsisu (sic) is my favorite of the Middle Eastern cookbooks. Her kibbe recipe is the best one I've ever found. I am also partial to the Complete Armenian Cookbook by Alice Bezjian. It includes a lot of pan-Middle Eastern food, not just Armo dishes.

Designerny, if you want Benjamin Moore there is a good place on 3rd ave and (I think) 14th or 16th Sts in Brooklyn.

There is a Lowe's in Brooklyn, pretty close to the Smith/9th St F stop.

I painted my bathroom a very similar color with bright white trim and an ultramarine door. It looks great, but admittedly it is a small room.

Good Questions: Does Champagne Orange Work?

The bed room in the apartment we just bought is entirely robin's egg blue and has 14 foot high ceilings. It is very cool (so much so that we are repainting in warmer colors), but it does make the room seem very airy. It looks good. It's just not our style.

Good Questions: How To Paint This High Ceilinged Room?
7/2/07 3:20 PM

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I totally agree that burning it (we do actually have a fireplace) is the best idea, but our remodeling budget is currently running dry, especially since the blue paint we want for the trim is so insanely expensive (to anyone who read my previous question re: majorelle blue, I found it. And thanks.).

We are both pretty handy (I was a theatre carpenter for awhile in high school and college, so I can make stuff that is sturdy, but looks kind of crappy), though, so we might look into building something. Do you think we should build something freestanding or simply attach doors to the front of nook, and use the existing walls as the rest of the unit?

The new doors idea is a great one. I hadn't known what line it was from (I only really go to Ikea when I move apartments), but now that I know that I can get something with a little more depth I am much happier. That way when if paint it it won't be quite so stark.

I also might look into the wallpaper/fabric idea. Does anyone have any experience attaching wallpaper to MDF? Is there anything special I would need to do to make it stick?

As you can tell, I am still making up my mind so please continue with the suggestions!

Not sure if anyone is still checking this thread, but I wanted to let you know that through your help (and the help of a poster on Brownstoner) I did finally find the paint. It is Yves Klein Blue and it is available from kt.Color in Switzerland (sold in NY by Aronsons on 17th St). It is ungodly expensive, but you, like me, might decide that it is worth it. It's just so so pretty.

Good Questions: Where Can I Find Majorelle Blue Paint?
6/16/07 4:32 PM

Just to report back, Maryam said that she had a friend that recommended Sydney Harbour/Porter's Paints and that they have a color called "Frieda" that is closeish. She also recommended trying Pantone paints, which looks like might allow me to get a perfect match. I'm a little afraid of them, though, as their paint chips (yes, paint chips) are between $75 and $250. Anyone know anyplace where I can look at the paint chips for free?

Good Questions: Where Can I Find Majorelle Blue Paint?

Unfortunately, the Ralph Lauren "majorelle blue" paint is not (at least according to the RL website) actually majorelle blue. It seems as though the RL paint is very light and faded, which is pretty much the opposite of what I'm looking for.

Thanks though.

Take care,
Scout

Good Questions: Where Can I Find Majorelle Blue Paint?

Thanks guys. I have emailed Maryam (I love her blog), and hopefully she will have some sort of secret formula. Otherwise, I think I'm going to have to get something mixed.

Deborah, how did that work for you? Did you just go the Home Depot route with a picture or did you go another way? Are you happy with the color?

Thanks again
