Great point about TVs over the fireplace in the article. What are others thoughts on this? I feel like it is almost expected in new construction to wire for this now, but could see it become an outdated idea down the road.

This sounds like the perfect space to use the Numerar Countertop from Ikea (96 7/8x25 5/8") with Vika Inge legs.

You can keep the wood finish and paint the legs or paint the paint the entire thing. I don't think you can find too many 8 ft. desk for less than $200.

I got the exact same bench last year for . . . . .wait for it . . . . $400 near the Illinois/Wisconsin border. You can imagine my amazement because the cheapest I have ever seen similar benches were in the neighborhood of $1500. Unfortunately, it is currently sitting in storage because I cannot find room in my one bedroom condo. My plan is to eventually rip off Thom Filicia's bar idea - see picture below!

Is your kitchen an open concept? If so, doing a feature wall of glass tile to the ceiling wouldn't be too expensive. See below for an example:

If is closed off, it wouldn't be too expensive to tile all the way to the ceiling around the windows in the entire kitchen.

Went to the pre-opening event last night. Having been to several other stores (Dallas, Princeton & NY), I was most impressed by this location. The design studio feature is really nice, although I don't think I would ever furnish my entire place with west elm.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but that light is not vintage. It is from Pier One. I own the same light. They no longer sell this style, but I have seen similar ones there.

In my opinion everything is too muted -- everything sort of blends together. I rarely say this, but I would go with a bright white and mix in some white accessories throughout (pillows, try, vase, etc). The orange and yellow are great, but white would certainly freshen it up. Check out CB2's website since they are always using these colors for more ideas.

The alternative to go the opposite route and go with a darker color, but I would not stay in the tan/yellow color family.
