Kaz, I had the same problem with knee-high boots. They always flop over and end up in a heap at the bottom of my closet. I've just started hanging them from the lower rod in my closet, like this: http://www.mommygaga.com/2012/10/simple-mom-hacks-organizing-your-boots.html

Or you could take cedar boot forms and replace the top knob with a hook, like this:

I have a Baby K'Tan sling, and even though I don't have twins it's one of the few slings I've seen that can be used to carry two babies at once. See instructions here: http://www.babyktan.com/

If you do plexi like kevstephb suggests, you could also put a cute piece of fabric or paper and then cover with the plexiglass.

Yes, "unpleasant smell" is a nice way of putting it. I stepped on one on a visit to Philly and had to leave my shoes out on the porch.
