The craftsmanship of the handle, and the fact that the handle was designed for a dual purpose (mobility coat rack) makes me love it.

Sure, it looks a little clunky here, but in the right fabric I think it'd be great.

I'd make my mom's chilli. It's amazing.

1 lb. spicy italian sausage
1 lb. ground beef
2 c chopped onion
2 cloves garlic
2 cans tomato (14 oz. stewed Italian)
1 6 oz can tomato paste (Italian)
4 oz. chopped green chilies undrained
1/4 c fresh parsley or 2 Tbsp. dried
2 Tbsp. chili powder
1 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. cumin seeds
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp pepper
3 cloves (can remove after an hour, but I usually don't)
1 bay leaf
1 16 oz. can black beans

Cook beef and pork in skillet, drain fat. Add the rest of the ingredients, cover and simmer for 1-1/2 hours. Add beans the last 30 minutes.

I'd usually pair this with fresh cornbread, and red wine. Best. Winter. Meal. Ever.

In terms of comfortability I love, love, love the leap. Not a bad chair from an environmental standpoint either: http://steelcase.com/na/environmental_leap_products.aspx?f=11852&c=17471

I just moved to NY and am in the middle of the apartment-stocking phase that involves all sorts of trips to the store to buy things that you don't realize you need until you reach for them and notice that they're not there.

Things like toilet paper. Ahem.

These would be perfect.

I really hope you all have listened to the Sufjan Stevens "Songs for Christmas" set. It's more than slightly amazing. That Was The Worst Christmas Ever is sort of achey and melancholy but really, really beautiful. No favorites though, the whole thing is pretty damn impressive.

Tis the season for all things White methinks.

My vote is for the leap, even though I also happen to own an Aeron.

The arm adjustment mechanism on the Leap is smooth, whereas my Aeron requires that you reach behind to adjust the height. Also, and this is just me being picky, the Aeron arms click into place rather than a having it be a fluid motion. The mesh IS pretty to look at, but the plastic frame creates certain ergonomic issues (hitting pressure points at the back of the legs).

I'm in the same boat. It's nice to know i'm not the only one frustrated with the process of finding a place...

That being said, a question: What's a reasonable budget for a studio or 1 bedroom in the nicer parts of Brooklyn or Manhattan? I didn't think I was reaching too much trying to keep it around $1600, but given the spaces I've been seeing lately I'm starting to second guess myself a bit.

Consider Cradle to Cradle Certified products. The C2C certification process ensures a certain degree of environmental, and social responsibility taking into account not just how it's manufactured but also what happens to it when you're ready to get rid of it. You can learn more at www.mbdc.com. At last check my understanding was that Steelcase held the most C2C certifications of any company in any industry. All that being said, it depends on what type of furnishings you're looking for. Local design/local manufacturing also seems like a reasonable solution.

I'd second the vote for the Steelcase Think or, I'd also recommend their Leap chair. Both chairs are ridiculously comfortable and even though I have a Herman Miller Aeron sitting in the corner of my bedroom, I prefer the adjustments on the Steelcase chairs. They're labeled, intuitive to use, a bit less clunky all around.

either way though, good luck
