Thanks all for the kind words and constructive critiques. Just thought I'd clarify a few things.

@RCBC - The utility sink was already here and we tried in vain to find a replacement instead of just cleaning it as we thought it would be easier to just replace. But no such luck. The sink is particularly deep and narrow and the cabinet was custom built around it. It works well for a baby bath when we need it but otherwise is a the perfect utility size.

@MulchMaid - The tiles are in decent shape but they aren't terracotta. If we didn't paint the floor we would have missed out on the dramatic look we were going for. Yes, the floor does show some dirt but its not bad and a little soapy water and marks will come up.

@Whale - The reason there is a tall stool is because my wife uses this as her vanity. We have a tiny dark bathroom in our house with old wiring which makes using a hair dryer a tricky situation as it often times trips the breaker. In the laundry room the hair dryer works no problem - a stool just makes it more comfortable to use the sink/mirror.

@Jenel - Ideally we would have preferred to have the washer/dryer against the opposite wall but the washer door would then open to the wall which is awkward and that door can't be flipped. By moving them to the far wall we could achieve doors that open to the room which make loading and unloading much easier. We are considering opening the wall and making a vent on that side of the room as we understand the dangers of fire. Our Whirlpool units do have a warning if there is too much back pressure detected on the exhaust line but we know it's not fail safe.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I can't say enough about the oscillating tools. Fein used to be the only manufacturer until their patent expired and now almost everyone is making them. I also really like the Bosch corded model.

The tools listed above are great for general do-it-yourself and most are capable of even more but for the average DIY enthusiast, buying a contractor grade tool is a bit of overkill in both price and function. But if you've got a healthy budget and don't mind working with heavier, albeit more durable tools, then stick with contractor grade tools and you'll also be surprised at the power of the current generation of lithium-ion cordless tools.

Most LED's albeit still expensive are dimmable. Grab as many incandescents as you can though.

Great review! Seems like there's finally an easy to use (and setup) system for homeowners that doesn't break the bank.

Besides security this has a fun factor.

The battle to pare down is one I'm losing right now but Craigslist and cash always help.

Technology doesn't take up much space in my life as my cell phone and desktop are all I need. Digital camera is close second. Don't have the iPad yet but its possible that could be a keeper.

Lighting is so underrated. Bad lighting throws of even the most well-appointed rooms.

Laura really opened my eyes to the value of proper illumination and I haven't looked back.

This is the only masculine design of the bunch which I think is a big turnoff for some folks whose taste has been cultivated through hours of watching HGTV and some of the design crap that is always pushed on there.
