I have two small open shelves in my kitchen that I use to store a pretty tea set and some other regularly used dishes. I think it's a nice decorative element but I also find it extremely functional (and way easier to add than closed cabinets). I use everything regularly and I've done a thorough clean once in the last four months but it really wasn't as dirty/grimy as I was expecting, just a bit of dust.

I am going to be focusing on my living room this month! I just moved into my apartment two months ago and for weeks the room, which is huge and has a lovely bay window, was full of castoffs from my roommates personal fitness business (weight benches and a treadmill, not very inviting!) The room is all cleared out now and I have a couch and that's about it. I'm simultaneously excited and intimidated by the scale of what I have to do to get this to a point where I'm no longer ashamed to welcome visitors to my home, but I think it's going to be a blast!
