This graffiti mural is AMAZING. I want to congratulate you for taking that huge risk. It looks great against the grey sofa. Love the color palette of tomato red, grey, and yellow! Not sure about the purple but if it makes you happy, go for it. I would consider replacing the curtains with something more sleek and tailored such as a Roman shade or a solar shade. It would be more complimentary toward the mural's sharp lines.

I want this awesome rug too. Anyone know of a NYC area source? (Will check HD. Never thought to look for rugs there.)

I too would LOVE to see a post on modern looking houseplants that are safe for pets!

Aw. We've all made color mistakes. Or at least I have. Working on fixing one myself. A color combo that looked good in theory and in Photoshop but not so much in real life, for some reason. Yes, there's way too much going on in here color-wise, but yay OP for being brave and trying different things. It takes guts to experiment with color like this.

Everyone has posted some great ideas here. As others have already said, I would definitely paint all the trim white in both rooms-- when you have a lot of bold color going on, it helps things look cohesive, as other posters have already said.

The yellow-gold wall color is pretty by itself but is too strong of a contrast with the blue couch and the matchy-matchy huge blue frame on the wall. I didn't see the part where orange chairs were mentioned, but if orange anything is going to be involved here, then I think the walls are almost going to have to be a neutral shade of some sort. Maybe chocolate brown or a charcoal gray? Either one would be bold yet technically neutral and goes well with a lot of other colors.

The dining room seen through the doorway is has amazing potential, BTW. Love the tulip table, the gorgeous blue, and the trim on the walls!

Wow this is awesome. Love the multitude of chairs, especially that fabulous Pierre Paulin... drool. This apartment is fantastic to me because it's so nicely balanced between the classic modern pieces, fun color accents, etc. and keeping it real-- you can tell that real people actually live here. Seconding CozyLittleCave's comment, I love seeing modern homes with personality. Inspiring. WTG.

Amazing space. I daydreamed of having a spacious, funky loft like this when I was a little kid. P.S. The glasses with eyes immediately reminded me of the billboard in "The Great Gatsby"!

Yeah, the double sided tape trick is working really well for me and my new couch new kitty. Of course she did claw a couple of small snags before I realized the tape was necessary... and then totally covered the arms and sides of the sofa with tape. I got some especially designed for this purpose called "Sticky Paws" at Petco. It's good stuff. Very sturdy. (I don't work for them, etc., etc., yada yada, insert standard disclaimer here. Just trying to help out fellow kitty people.) Comes in flat precut strips or on a roll like packing tape. Cats also don't like the feel of walking on aluminum foil FYI, so that can be useful for covering larger surfaces that kitty is not allowed on.
P.S. Sincere condolences to the OP on Coco's passing and congrats on the new baby.

Great use of color! Where are the candlesticks on the coffee table from? I've been looking for some just like these.

I think the color combination is absolutely beautiful and very 'fresh' just the way it is. This is such a light, airy, comfortable looking room. Very relaxing and peaceful.

Here's one more vote for Eric being the absolute best! He drove me to Ikea today and then delivered and assembled a large Besta media center and some Billy bookcases in my apartment. They all look wonderful. So impressed. He's the nicest person ever too. I felt at ease right away. Most importantly, Eric's expertise at every single aspect of this process is phenomenal. Very knowledgeable and helpful in assisting with various store locations, products, and of course the assembly. I had a lot of questions beforehand and they were all answered promptly, politely, and patiently. He really cares about doing a superb job and it shows. Everything is just impeccable. I couldn't be happier with this amazing quality service. Ikea Delivery Alternative = awesome.

Opal's right-- a cup or bowl of white vinegar left inside each drawer or cabinet will do wonders. I've done this and was very happy with the results. It took about a week for the stink to disappear.

ForbiddenFruit, check out Aronson's Floor Covering on W. 17th St. They sell linoleum, vinyl, Marmoleum, all kinds of flooring products that would work for a vintage look.

Hello AT, does anyone have a recommendation for a good quality, fairly priced shop in Manhattan or Brooklyn that makes custom window treatments?

K_darling, I don't have any personal experience with them, but Economy Foam & Futons advertises "foam cut to size while you wait". They have 2 locations, W. 8th between 5th & 6th Ave., and E. Houston @ 1st Ave. http://www.economyfoamandfutons.com/.

Bond Girl, I live in the EV and am currently working with Anthony Riccio of AD Custom Interiors renovating the bathroom and kitchen of my apartment. You can search him here on AT to read some other reviews. The job is almost finished and has gone really well. He is an incredibly nice person and so easy to work with. I've found the pricing to be fair and the work of impeccable quality. I would highly recommend Anthony and his crew.

Faith, since you said you like minimalism, I would definitely consider reglazing the tub to white and replacing the sink altogether for the reason stated above by RichardinLA-- I've had these separate taps in the past and they are annoying to use. The green tub and sink have a certain retro charm to them, but they probably can't really fit into a really minimal modern style bathroom. The black and white tiles, however, might be able to work.

Think pure white or graphic B&W print shower curtain and sleek white, black, or chrome accessories. If you can change the towel bars, chrome ones would look great. A fresh coat of paint always works wonders, too. I would change the creamy white paint to either a white that blends better with the tiles, or perhaps to a subtle color of your liking.
