In Japan they used to burn the clapboard similar to the above mentioned technique to protect them from the elements and from burning. Funny how many are vexed that Americans don't have electric kettles. Well most of us don't drink as much tea as the Brits, Aussies, and Kiwis. I, however, drink lots of tea and I've considered an electric kettle, but after what many have said on their rather short lifetimes I'll forgo it and stick to the stove-top one I've had for 10+years. I have a ton of Queen Anne's lace in my garden. It's just taken over. UGH! I also have plenty of milkweed, which I dig. I want lots of monarchs fluttering about my garden. Last year, summer, I noticed that I had an ant problem in my kitchen. My sister sent me some little baits, but that didn't help much. I decided to do some online research and found that ants follow a scent left by one of their trailblazers. You have to throw their scent trail off so they get disoriented and thus don't return. Ground cinnamon is what I sprinkled all over my baseboards, and lo and behold no more ants. I've not seen one since, and the best part is that cinnamon smells good and is "all natural".
