I registered for my (our?) fine china through the Shops of Historic Charleston in Charleston, SC. If you want Blue Canton by Mottahedeh you can bypass Neimans and get it tax-free through them. They have online shopping (albeit a bit difficult to navigate) and the shop is manned by a bunch of sweet old ladies. Plus, all proceeds go to their historic preservation efforts! They shipped everything to my house. It was a dream compared to the downright NIGHTMARE of Williams-Sonoma. I used an opaque projector to paint Lichtenstein's Drowning Girl on my wall. My teenage heart knew I needed to dial down the class, so I surrounded it with chili lights and pictures of Everclear (the band). There was a mattress on the floor and glow-in-the dark stars... maybe a lava lamp? I'm not sure. I loved it. What is up with the "Keep Calm" hate? You could say the same thing about twee bird prints or Moroccan tile rugs. Is that honestly the first (and only) thing you have to say about this space?
