carpet is yucks. When you remove this one, you'll see the subfloor is a little lower so the transition might be perfectly fine if you install new hardwood. Hopefully your subfloor is nice and even. Carpet or Hardwood in Bedroom? Good Questions |

You can paint it if you want, but it will affect the value of your home. Personally, I would pay less for a home with painted woodwork and would try to avoid buying one at all as it's quite a project to reverse your painting.
