I have a set of these in milk glass and I use them for breakfast. Coffee in the cup and eggs and slice of toast in the plate. They are very handy.

I try to pack a fun lunch everyday. Recently it's been pretty basic (leftovers). I even write a blog about my lunches.

I always need new ideas so this post definitely helps.

I usually stick to the recipe pretty severely when it's my first time trying a new complicated dish. I get especially rigid with new recipes that call for a lot of different spice varieties (a terrifyingly authentic lamb vindaloo had be up to my eyeballs in measuring spoons). Otherwise, I wiggle with it.

I may catch a lot of flack for this, but I kind of don't get the whole beekeeping craze. What's the point? Are people jarring and selling honey? If that's the case, then maybe I can see a reason for going to all the trouble of setting up a hive in your back yard. But if it's just for personal consumption it seems a bit of a hassle. Maybe it's because I don't really like honey all that much. Can anyone help me out here?

It's a great but sort of tricky in that we don't want tons of our tax dollars to go toward a green update in this tight economy. BUT, that being said, I think it's way better use of that money than say all the random pork that sucks billions away from us. Honestly, it's not black and white, but like the commenters stated...who's really going to say this is not "Hot"?

I've been lucky enough to live in an elevator building since I've been living the city. I'm now on the 6th floor but in my last two apartments I was on the 3rd floor and then the 2nd floor. It's so great when it's time to move or get furniture delivered.

My favorite TV show set has always been the Dick Van Dyke Show. I am CONVINCED that the sofa called "Petrie" from Crate and Barrell is named after Van Dyke's character on the show ("Rob Petrie"). And since their house was supposed to be in New Rochelle, I feel confident that the sofa called "Rochelle" is also inspired by the show. Has anyone else come to this conclusion, or am I the only 1960s television obsessed design looky lou?

Laundry Sucks! Especially here in NYC where it's rare to have a washer/dryer in your apartment. I only have to lug my loads down to the laundry room on the first floor, but a lot of people have to drag their dirty duds to a luandry mat blocks away from their home. Either way, it all sucks. The sign of truly "making it" here (to me, anyway) is having a washer/dryer in your home.

I polished off a pitcher of my special white sangria (pinot grigio, triple sec, pear soda, white nectarines, sliced green grapes, & limes) as I watched the Laker hand over the championship last night. It was the only thing that consoled me.

I made salt crusted whole trout for a dinner party last summer. You know, when you bake a fish stuffed with citrus fruits and herbs in what looks like an igloo of salt mixed with merengue. The biggest challenge, I thought, was to make sure that the fish didn't come out salty. All of the recipes and blogs I read stressed that salt baking is all in the technique.

Anyway, I got it in my head to use the best local fish I could find, so I went down to the farmers market early Saturday morning and bought a beautiful whole trout that was caught the night before. BUT, it wasn't cleaned. I lugged that fish around in a plastic bag full of ice on the subway from the financial district to Harlem and stopped at 4 different grocery stores along the way to beg the fish mongers to clean it for me. No dice. I finally had to tackle the beast myself in my bathtub in a makeshift HasMat suite (garbage bag dress, shower cap and rubber gloves). By the end of the ordeal there was blood, guts and scales all over the walls and I was in tears.

I stuffed the thing and made the salt bake mixture and cooked all of the much simpler side dishes before the guests arrived. And, here's the kicker...the damn thing came out salty! I'm sure it was all down to my novice cooking skills and frazzled mindset. But, I can say that I'll never attempt it again.

p.s. The meal was saved by the yummy chocolate cake my other half made for desert.

I always thought sweet tea was made in the sun tea tradition. When I was growing up in California my neighbor (who was from Oklahoma) used to always have a big glass picnic tank of sun tea "brewing" in the back yard. She'd dump a about a cup of sugar in when it was sufficiently strong and pour it over a tall glass of ice. I found it fascinating and very exotic.

Wait! I was at the Union Square Greenmarket on hunting for strawberries last weekend and they were nowhere to be found. I'm making a strawberries and cream birthday cake this weekend and really want to use local stuff. I guess I'll be on the hunt again tomorrow morning. Bright and early this time. Wish me luck!

I got a stomach ache as soon as I saw the picture of bagged hard boiled eggs. This is essentially a horrible food poisening family picnic incident waiting to happen. Just say no.

It's a fun looking can, but it takes the fun out of making pancakes. For me cooking, especially cooking breakfast, is all about doing something lovely for your friends or family. Spraying batter into a pan, even *organic* batter, is not as lovely or fun as mixing up your own special batch of hotcakes.
