Day 4: Remove One Item and Set Up Outbox
The 20/20 Home Cure

This is not hard. Do not mount the TV. Ugly. Hard to watch.

Put the TV over in the corner where you have the big black chair. If there's room, centre it on the wall and flank it with shelving so it isn't lonely.

Turn the sofa and put it up against the wall with the window, next to the door. Then float the big chair where the couch is now. Actually, you may want two smaller chairs instead.

You may even have room for another chair this way.

You may want to purchase a square coffee table for this arrangement. Good luck. I have no idea if things will fit this way or not.

"Pops of colour" has become such a cliche, that I expect the writer simply forgot what it means. These are not examples of "pops" of colour...but explosions--riotous, joyful over-the-top explosions. And they are fabulous.

Love, love the magazine/mail holder as a shoe shelf. That is brilliant.

I have participated in many Home Cures. I think this format for this time of year was fine. I, too, missed the 8-step Cure--but seeing as I didn't finish this last week, it was probably all I could handle.

But, I really think you should bring back the 8 week cure in the Spring. This felt like a "baby" cure, not just because of the format, but because so many of the tasks in the full version of the Cure were simply more robust than the tasks we were given to do here. Deep cleans in the 8 week Cure are so thorough, that painting sometimes seems like the natural next step. Everything was all prepared. Light housekeeping is not the same thing. Except for flowers, we skipped the heart tasks. I missed that.

Do you have the sense people engaged with their homes and transformed their relationship to it? Made it more intimate, more personal, and made it more functional and supportive of our spirits?

Can that be done in 20 minutes a day, over 4 weeks?

Please do something about that sound. I've a headache--I hope the asprin isn't expired!

He says you are supposed to put the medication in an air tight container surrounded by dirt or coffee grounds? I have never heard that! You should have asked him why, Maxwell.

Day 18: Declutter Medicine Cabinet
The 20/20 Home Cure

@JMD: Think of getting rid of the books as creating space for the stuff that is out of control. That's my biggest problem, too. If it is on a shelf and neat and organized, it isn't clutter to me either--except that there's no room to put away the stuff on my tables. There is a relationship between the two!

I will have to take some time to do this. 25%? That is truly an extraordinary amount.

I really didn't expect much from Today's video--after all, what can you say about buying flowers? As it turned out--a fair bit! I understand this so much better now. Thanks, Maxwell. I enjoyed that.

The 20/20 Home Cure

Max--not the hooks, again? You have heard of wall anchors, right?

On a more personal note--I'm not getting the e-mails.

The trick will be prioritizing six things we can afford to get done. Or--I might make it easy on myself: I think it'll take about 6 tasks to finish up the re-decoration of the bathroom I started last September.

Day 10: Make List of Top 6 Home Needs
The 20/20 Home Cure

"Stuff for Sara-Kate" you said--and left it on your butcher block. Your spouse/roomate/child/whatever needs his or her own "clutter bin." You can put the mail in there--but also anything else of theirs left about which needs to be picked up and put away. I have one specifically for my daughter--and it helps us both!

I just have to add that the e-mails were essential to me. Without them, I would have derailed completely.

This was an odd Cure, for me. In past Cures I've connected with a lot of people and we've happily "re-decorated" each other's places. This didn't happen this time around.

I'm not sure why, but this Cure felt directed from the top down more than it ever has. There wasn't the "back and forth" during the weekly threads--and I'm as much to blame as anyone. I just didn't take that much time to "interact" with folks.

Still, I got a lot done and I'm glad I did it. My relationship with my home is always growing and changing. I subtracted from every room--except the living room--and there I added in such a way that the room finally looks as though grown ups live here. I'm glad I was finally ready for it!

PS. Maxwell--I don't think it was a good idea to have Thanksgiving intrude near the end. Next time, I think timing it so it falls it Week 8 (or 9) would be ideal.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I did the deep treatment--and the most visible difference are the areas where I did not put back the stuff on the walls when I cleaned.

My front hallway has been opened up, my kitchen no longer feels oppressive (I took down a shelf that ran the length of the wall and some large artwork on another wall). It's really amazing to me what just cleaning and clearing out the clutter has done.

My living room, on the other hand, I added a new ottomon, rug, pillows and artwork to the wall. It is marvelous. I wish I could send you a picture of it.

Lovely post.
Unfortunately, I got bogged down in the bedroom this week. After a big dusting and changing the sheets last weekend, I just stalled. I've even got a painting project in there waiting for it's third coat before it goes back to my daughter's room. Oops.

I am so thankful we don't have Thanksgiving next week as some of you do! That would be just too much.

I have yet to finish scrubbing both the full bath downstairs and the powder room upstairs. I have, however, painted the inside of the downstairs medicine chest--two coats. And I've been making calls in order to get a headboard put together next week.

My "to do" list is a mile long for today. I'll spare you!
