I make this strawberry meringue layer cake which is amazing - kind of like a pavlova on steroids. It's not particularly difficult to make or assemble, can be scaled up or down, and is DELICIOUS. What Is Your Most Show-Stopping, Crowd-Pleasing, Knock-Out Dessert? |

LOL. What you can't see from the photos is that this is also the technology room, where the computer system lives, and the desk is a sort of rustic industrial. "Steampunk" (although that was a little bit of an offhand comment rather than the defining term for the room in my mind) is the combination of the Victorian aesthetics with modern use. You might try to try sheet straps to pull the bunching under the mattress. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/HomeDeluxe-Deluxe-Sheet-Straps/dp/B002DN6COU Good Fitted Sheets for IKEA Mattresses? Good Questions |

It's worth buying an inexpensive one before you can afford to shell out for the good stuff. I had a $50 Martha Stewart from K Mart enameled dutch oven in Grad School. It chipped after about 5 years, but $10/year is pretty cheap rent (I replaced with Le Creuset, which are still going strong, 10 years later) What Is the Best Substitute for a Dutch Oven? I'm happy with the results every time I use mine, but don't have a lot of ideas on how to use it. Still, last night I steamed artichokes in 10 minutes, which was awesome. Pressure Cookers: Making a Comeback? |

That almond meal is a must have in my house. Also love the roasted piquillo peppers in jars and the Sorrento salad mix, which I think is new. Spotted at Trader Joe's: 5 Great Staples for Our Pantries |

I have a large bookcase in my (large) bedroom, and I love it. We do a lot of reading in bed, and it's nice to have a few titles close at hand if you're between books at bedtime. In our last apartment, we didn't have space for a bookshelf in the bedroom, and I hated it. Do You Like Bookcases in the Bedroom? |

A few years ago, when we were thinking about starting a family, my husband and I decided to invest in a king sized mattress and box spring. We went to several different stores, lay down on a bunch, and ended up paying over $1000 for a Simmons Beautyrest something or other. (I want to say $1200? with delivery?) That was five years ago, and still, at least three times a week, one of us will groan as we lay down "I LOVE our bed." Seriously, one of the best purchases ever. I'd rather sleep on a fantastic mattress and drive a cheap car. What Is the Right Price for a Bed? A Year in Bed |

Bedlinens first (last packed, first unpacked) and the coffee maker. Daughter's bedroom was early, too, to make it easier on her, then the kitchen (The kitchen is nice because all the furniture is built in -- everything has a place. There's no "hmm, we really need another bookshelf"). Plus it's a big accomplishment to unpack the kitchen, and kitchen stuff clearly goes in the kitchen (no livingroom vs. den discussions). We stayed at Treebones Resort in Big Sur a few years ago. Were there during a HUGE rainstorm and it was so cozy inside our yurt. And there were seriously amazing views from our balcony. 5 Yurt Escapes | Apartment Therapy DC |

I just did an unprompted big sort of my closet (don't understand why I had the formal top I bought in college --- 10 years ago -- when I've moved five times since then, including across the country, but it has been consigned to the sort pile (in this particular case, destined for my daughter's dress up box)). Of course, now we're probably moving, but I take comfort in the fact that my closet is done! The Big Sort: The Best Thing About Packing Up for a Move | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I've been making my own lists, but I've been separating into cookware, tools and the (to come) electrics. There is a lot of overlap between this list and mine. I do think tools are so individual, though. Ten Most-Used: Sara Kate's Favorite Kitchen Tools | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

I make a Mexican coleslaw -- mix mayo with lime juice and cumin, toss with shredded cabbage. It's a nice accompaniment to tacos. Rice and beans are also traditional.
