I definetly agree about using a bold pattern. If you choose one with a light (or) white backround, it would keep the same airy feeling in your place, but add tons of personality. What I would do to the boxes above is cover them with fabric (same as the curtains) perhaps with self sticking velcro, so that they look like cornice boxes, then mount curtain rods as closely under them as possible (allowing for the bunching of the curtain fabric, of course). I would use the inexpensive, usually white, straight rods that curve towards the wall at the ends so it would give the illusion that the curtains were mounted inside the boxes. Cheap but lovely!

If the eames chair doesn't work, I would recommend a rocker over a glider. My 8 month old and I have used a glider since he was born and it just doesn't seem to do the trick. When we are in the rocker at grandma's though, he falls right to sleep.
