I put these on my house in the black - love them. I was quite pleased with the look and the price.

I saw a solution in House Beautiful that I loved: bamboo Roman shades on the windows, then full-length floor to ceiling curtains w/curtain rings - very full - that ran almost wall to wall. Really gorgeous. You can certainly use more than one panel; just sew them together. Will work fine with rings, clip-on or sewn.

I have the tulip side table. I cleaned scuff marks off the base with Magic Eraser. It looks brand new. I have an Eames kitchen table w/laminate top, so I'll try the alcohol or enzyme cleaner for the top. Great suggestions.

I'd paint your shutters a dark color, not necessarily black. Could be dark charcoal, dark blue-gray - depends on your brick color. I consider the piece around and under the window, as well as next to the front door to be trim (like the second floor trim). Should all be the same color, but I don't like the white. If it were mine, I'd paint all that the color of the mortar (no, all mortar isn't the same). And then I'd paint the front door a fantastic color - not black, but one that makes the house stand out and looks great with the brick and trim.

I was reading your pointers above about travel, when suddenly I had this thought about how to use some of the things I bring home from trips. Thanks - you've inspired me!

All of the above in the survey. And the pieces that we had in our family were incredibly comfortable. We had a grasshopper chair, which I used to lie in upside down to read (feet up the back). I did the same in the Butterfly (Hardoy) chair, except at an angle. We'd put our legs over the arms of the womb chair. I LOVE this furniture. I think most of it is so incredibly beautiful that it can move me to tears. I have my favorites: Eames, Bertoia, Knoll, Saarinen, Noguchi, Nelson's lamps.

Fun chairs. I'd go with a dark rug - maybe the grey, grey/blue, warm brown. I love FLOR carpet tiles, 'coz you can do almost anything you want (but if those wood floors have varnish, I don't think FLOR tiles will work). I'd go for a color that looks great w/the wood floor. There's a MS color at Home Depot called "Fledgling." It might look great.

I love gray. I painted one wall gray in the LR, because that wall becomes part of the hall, which I wanted to paint a color. It's MS Sandpiper, which doesn't look gray on the card, but is on the wall. The rest of the LR walls & ceiling are RL Pocket Watch White. The front door opens to face it, and each time I walk in, I have to admire that wall. Haven't tired of it yet.

I'd try some of the furniture in a different arrangement (not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure). Everything is very square - furniture & placement - and static. Move the shorter couch where the 2 chairs & table are now. I know the back of a sofa to an opening isn't great for feng shui, but I think it might anchor that end of the room. Try 2 of the square end tables behind the sofa, like a console, or that piece of furniture way off in the corner near the door. Put 2 chairs (maybe that blue chair/wood trim that you were moving) w/ a square end table between in front of the window. Use the round end table between the ends of the 2 sofas. Lose a coffee table and the brown pillows on the sofas. Curtains on the windows. Try the tall cabinet in the corner where the art is and rethink the art placement - it looks lost.

How much a part of the LR is the kitchen? I can't tell by your pics. But if it's possible, paint the two areas in colors that blend (if that's the right word). For example, I have a LR wall that becomes a hallway wall. I painted the LR white, but did that wall a pale gray (MS Sandpiper), and then painted the rest of the hall the same, except for the doors, which are a color that blends with the wall (MS Pebble).

Martha Stewart paint samples are designated w/various symbols in order to help pick a color palette. I don't love them all, but some are stunning. The end result can be a subtle variation in color.

I'm guessing the house is a beige/sand/maybe light camel. Roof trim should be lighter than the house color - maybe cream or ivory. When it's darker than the building, it visually lowers the roof line. Also, paint the gutters and fascia the same cream/ivory - no stripes. Trim around the windows could be med gray-blue w/columns the same. Persimmon front door. Check out Kelly Moore's site - They have a Persimmon paint that looks great.

I ordered online 2 of the square poufs. I love them. One is not quite as well-finished as the other, but it's not glaring. Colors are exactly what I'd hoped. Seems very firm, and I love the rounded top.

I think JA inspired me to use gold accents - I'd always used silver/chrome. What I love about his design is his sense of humor - there's always something that really tickles me - that says he doesn't take himself too seriously - whether it's color or pattern or scale or hand chairs or a profile-shaped sofa w/ head pillows. But it all works together great, I think.

Can't figure out what I'm seeing in the pic - bed, couch? Change pillows to a bright color you like, maybe in a graphic print - red, yellow, fuschia, chartreuse green? Books add color, but you could leave spaces for a colored vase, bowls, sculpture, whatever. Flowers. Something colorful on the walls - poster prints, a great mirror. Even a colorful study lamp.

Lovely quilt. I'd say go with pale grey sheets. I think white and ivory together make the ivory look dirty. In feng shui pink is the color for a bedroom. A pink pillow (I'm thinking a discreet print) w/a navy or dark grey one might be nice. If you need a dust ruffle, go with navy.
