Hate taxidermy; love the striped living room rug and the coffee table. I had a rug similar to that once, and it became discolored so quickly it scared me off forever.

I just did that to my bed. I found a gorgeous piece of dark blue batik fabric and used it as a sort of slipcover on my wood headboard; it looks fantastic. Very inexpensive solution, and I can switch it up very easily.

Not sure if I'd do it, I guess it would depend on the circumstances. When I was in college, there was a horrible murder in a beautiful house very near the Stanford campus (husband killed his wife). As soon as the story hit the papers, people started inquiring about the house and if it was for sale yet...asking price...when could they see it, etc. The house sold very fast, and for a substantial price. All must have gone well with the new owners; I never heard about anything negative with the home.

I love seeing boxwoods and red geraniums on balconies all over London; they seem to be staples in balcony/window box design. Your updates look very good; having two balconies must be nice.

Relative bulk, as I have extremely minimal storage space. I like to have an extra tube of toothpaste on hand, and buy 18-roll packages of toilet paper and six rolls of paper towels. I can't really imagine having huge pantrys and closets full of bulk purchases.

There are very few people I'd allow to stay in my home. Immediate family and some very close friends, but that is it. I've had some horrendous house guests, and they prompted my policy. I agree with Skipping Daisies; it is perfectly appropriate to say no, and no explanation is needed. Just say "I'm sorry, but I can't put you up."

How is it anyone's business whether you own or rent? How rude of your friends, and anyone else who would make similar statements. What you do with your money, and how you live is your concern. How utterly obnoxious!
