Is is just me? This site now looks exactly like The Daily Kos.

http://dailykos.com/

I will be honest and say that I usually have an initial negative reaction to redesigns. And this redesign is no exception. As with everything else in life, likely I will get used to it. I just pulled up the old design on the wayback machine and compared the two pages side by side. Meh. I agree with others that this font is more difficult to read.

My main bit of feedback is this: I am going to continue looking at the main page and the main page only. If there is content you want me to see, it needs to be there. Period.

These are an improvement over the traditional ceiling fan? I guess there really is no accounting for taste!

I think we'd walk away, but we have family outside the area who would welcome us with open arms, and we don't rely on our home (or the land surrounding it) to make a living. If we had to start over, we probably could find a way to do it. Not everyone is that lucky.

Some are recommending that you ruin those gorgeous cabinets, which would cost tens of thousands to replace, and then bring in IKEA whatever????? Yikes!

As someone mentioned above, these cabinets can go in almost any direction, depending on how they are accessorized.

Here are some pretty kitchens from rejuvenation:

I disagree with the comments about musical instruments as decorative items. How do you know that bass doesn't have special meaning for the homeowners? Maybe one of them *does* play the bass. Maybe they don't, but someone's father was a musician and the bass reminds them of him.

I don't have any musical instruments on display myself (other than the piano--since my son stopped taking lessons, no one plays it regularly; does that make me a poser for still having it in my living room?), but my mother has had the ancient violin she played as a child on display in her living room for as long as I can remember. She hasn't had it restored because she isn't interested in playing anymore, but it belonged to her favorite aunt and she has fond memories of playing for this aunt when she came to visit. Why is this any different from displaying any other beloved hand-me-down?

An adorable little home. But please tell me there is some kind of invisible barrier between the bedroom and that long drop to the kitchen below.

I love everything! Except the plywood wall. To me, it clashes.

Your kitchen is a work of art. Love!

ugh, I *hate* that Christmas starts so early. It makes me feel very stressed to roll from Thanksgiving planning right into christmas. I like a little down time. We put the tree up mid-December and usually take it down about a week into January.

and TBH, I too would have gone with brighter white cabinets. Didn't AT just feature a pretty pink and white studio apartment? That's the look I would have gone for.

eh, I don't hate the counter. But then, I agree with bepsf. Forget about the apartment and enjoy your stay.

Is This Backsplash Makeover Worth the Effort?

No, they don't work. ITA with others that you should do a white tile backsplash, either squares or subways. Cheap, easy, and it will brighten things up with a nice pop.

p.s. As others have mentioned, it's doubtful that your kitchen cabinets are original. You cabinets likely were put in after the original sink--which would have been wide with a built-in drain board and may have been free-standing--was removed.

I am...speechless. What a gorgeous house. I love the mix of old and new, the artwork, the paint colors. Your living room is wonderful. I commend your restraint in the kitchen--it is just perfect. Love the black & white curtains.

are the round mirrors in the entry hall vintage? If not, can you provide a source? Love them.

I don't find anything "monochrome" or "minimalist" about this apartment. It's warm and inviting and very comfortable-looking. I love the living room. No home is complete without books. :-)

However, I'll be the lone dissenter--I liked it all until I got to the bathroom. Eek.

Count me as one American who will never give up her stovetop kettle. Counter real estate is just too precious to give over to another counter appliance. Plus, c'mon, an electric kettle just lacks soul.
