Personally, I am not a fan of NFL decor and find their ads extremely depressing. I bet there are many more fleece Cowboys blankets slung across overstuffed sofas than Bertoia chairs.

Lovely home, Kelly. I have found many antlers and skulls throughout my career as an environmental scientist but your collection rivals mine and it is displayed so beautifully. By the way, there is an angler in Martha's Vineyard that only prepares animals that have died of natural causes. I have one of her Northern pikes. In fact, several of my former professors have done this with found animal corpses for use in the classroom. I have had to place many a dead bird in my ornithology professor's freezer.

Some have jokingly commented on displaying human body parts. There is always the work of Joel Peter Witkin or Gunther von Hagens. The subjects donated their corpses. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The most heartbreaking and disgusting article I ever read was about collectors of holocaust paraphernalia such as lampshades made out of tattooed concentration camp victims' flesh.

I have almost the same chair and purchased the straps (produced by the Fagas Company of Denmark) and clips from Evans Inc. Here's the website:

Good afternoon. I was curious if there are any indicators of whether a base is a Saarinen tulip design or not (for example, number of screws, proportions, etc). I just purchased a stool off craigslist. I am 95% sure it's a fake (although it was advertised as authentic). It was cheap, not new (~30 years old) and pretty rusty. I'm going to have it sand blasted, powder coated and then sew a new cover for it. Thanks.

I could really use that snazzy lamp... it's so dark in my apartment I am experiencing eye strain.

I sympathize with the reader. I was recently screamed at by the host of a wine bar on North 6th street. Needless to say, I did not eat there. Maybe he was on edge because of the eatery's 16 health code violation points! In other words, retaliation is usually the sign of a failure somewhere within the business.

I have been searching the Internet for an informative site on mid century furniture. All I have come across are merchants. I just want to identify a few pieces of furniture I have. I've noticed a few good books on this subject at the Strand but I'd love a web resource so I could send links to friends and family (e.g., "look Aunt Violet, that chair in your woodshed is an original Platner stool" [I wish]). Thanks.

I vaguely remember a McGreen before MrGreen came on the scene.

Thanks, SALTOCEAN! I was wondering what was going on with those prices. Even though the sofa on the website is much cheaper than the original, it's not worth it if it turns out to be a piece of junk.

Good morning, AT. Has anybody ever purchased furniture from Advanced Interior Designs? My sister found a sofa on their website that she really likes. The prices are so low it seems suspicious. Also, the shipping is free. Is that weird?

I sometimes stop by the New Haven IKEA on my way up to a friend's house in Vermont. I haven't purchased any furniture from them in a while (last piece was a pine bookshelf that I "hybridized" with my boyfriend's blonde IKEA dresser to create a kitchen sideboard-cyborg). I do, however, really like their textiles. I have used IKEA fabrics in a variety of projects and have been completely satisfied. Also, I love their cafeteria.

I love the Tulip chair, bellaknollie. It reminds me of the Muppets Pigs in Space skit. I will keep my eyes peeled for one. Unfortunately, a lot of other people seem to love that design, too! They are selling for a lot on Ebay and craigslist.

Thanks, olya! I had the children's version of the chairs as a child (a pretty amazing hand-me-down from my Dad's ex-wife). They were black and my parents would always trip over them because they blended in with the rug. I don't remember sitting in them but I liked them a lot. That childhood memory is why I want to buy the chair.

I want opinions on the comfort of the Bertoia side chair. I found an old one for a decent price. I am thinking about using it as a desk chair which means sitting in this chair for pretty long periods of time (doing homework). This will be in my tiny apartment so I don't want a big office chair. I don't think DWR would like me sitting in their store for 3 hours "test driving" the chair and not buying anything so I thought I'd ask the AT community. Thanks!

Shoot. Sorry, Art! My little sister works for the EPA in Chicago (in the water division... guess it's in the genes!). I'll forward your question to her.

Christinanyc- My boss often complains about water coolers. She says they harbor bacteria. I am not sure where she got this information. I will ask her when she comes in on Monday and post my findings on AT tips.

Art- My division concentrates on lead and copper in drinking water. Older buildings sometimes have either lead service lines or copper service lines joined by lead solder. There was a lead ban instituted in 1987 so newer service lines should not have any lead (although some do if the plumbing is not on the up-and-up). Your faucet can also contribute to contaminants in your drinking water. High end fixtures often contain lead. If you are concerned, please call 311 for a free testing kit. We (NYC-DEP) will send you a two bottle kit. The first bottle tests for lead and copper in the faucet and the second, for lead and copper in the service line.

nycflats- You're right, it is nice to be able to stay out past 1 and not have to spend money on a cab.
