Is a KitchenAid Stand Mixer really that big of a status gift? I don't even own a hand mixer... a spoon or whisk is just fine.

My husband and I stayed in Mark's guesthouse on our recent trip to Austin and really enjoyed the accommodations. It was very private, quiet (except for the birds--not something we're using to hearing in the city), and nicely decorated. I noticed that they didn't share photos of the bathroom, as this was the one part of the apartment that wasn't yet nicely updated.

Are you crazy? The last time I lived in a single-family home (with roommates, in undergrad), we didn't even open our windows (or blinds, for that matter) on the first floor because it was not safe. I was sometimes afraid to sleep with my bedroom window open since it was directly above the porch roof and someone could climb onto it.

Just wondering...where did the 8 year old sleep when you lived in the studio?

We don't own a TV, and we pay $35/mo for 50MB internet. My company pays for my cell phone (which I can use for personal use, too), so we have no need for a landline. We mainly dowxnload torrents (yes, it's technically illegal) for the few shows we want to watch, or find them streaming for free online.

By "consultant," do you mean a direct salesperson? Is it like Amway where you have to sign up for monthly subscriptions? If so, I'd rather have a dirty oven...

I agree. I really like the finishes overall, but why is there an office chair right in front of the stove?

I don't understand why people in Seattle can't just buy a window unit AC for the bedroom like the rest of the country... I never had air conditioning until last year (I live in Chicago, if that matters), and we just put one in our bedroom window in July and August when it gets particularly hot.

We have some plain white Libbey Glass dishware in a modern style. My hometown happens to be Libbey Glass' headquarters, so I was able to buy everything at the Libbey Outlet for a huge discount. Such a good deal on great quality pieces!

I am a minimalist, so this space really appeals to me, and I love the light. A few things seemed a bit odd to me though: the rug floating in the middle of the living room floor (instead of under the sofa/seating area), and the shower curtain hanging on strings...could just get an extra-long curtain, no?

We bought the Calphalon stainless steel tri-ply at the Calphalon outlet on a holiday weekend. Super sale on already discounted "seconds" (meaning slight or invisible imperfections) allowed us to get small, medium, and large pot, plus a frying pan, and double boiler for $100 total. Highly recommend it, very durable and reputable brand with no "non-stick" chemicals.

Where can I find that silvery one in the upper right hand corner of the second photo? Is it a stainless steel soup pot?

Why are most of the suggestions about murder or death (with the exception of House of Cards and Mad Men)? I cannot watch those types of shows ever, especially before going to bed.

I'm going to take this opportunity to again recommend the Ty shower curtain liner made from Tyvek. Feels like papery linen, cuts cleanly with no fraying, and there's no hem to collect mildew.
