Huntington, WV - 900 sf, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, garage, corner lot - $380/month includes mortgage, taxes and insurance.

Not a great neighborhood but okay and a short bike ride to the park and downtown.

Before my husband and I purchased our home, we went to the neighbors to introduce ourselves and ask about the neighborhood. By the time we signed the papers, we felt like we knew our immediate neighbors and we all celebrated together.

The dog isn't allowed on the grass? Seriously?

This is actually a very interesting topic for me.

I learned to clean from my mom. Growing up, our house was always spotless and she worked tirelessly to keep it that way.

I have two dogs and a husband who isn't particular - we live in the city on a brick street. The dust is incredible.

I really struggled with guilt and shame because my house would not live up to my mom's standards. To find a routine I can manage that keeps my house clean enough, I had to give up that guilt and accept that my house will never be spotless for very long. And, really, that's okay.

Now I work a little each evening so I can follow my one and only cleaning rule - no cleaning on the weekend.

Home! I'm not a fan of Skyline but I love Graeters and Larosas. My office was on fountain sqare and I could look out the window at all of the people enjoying beautiful sunny days during summer and the ice skating rink during winter. My family is still there and I miss it more every time I leave. Thank you for speaking so highly of the city. Most people find it stuffy and unforgiving.

This is a little off-topic but...

I just found out that someone I know doesn't have HOMEOWNER'S insurance. I don't know how he sleeps.

Clickchick - I'm Antiochian Orthodox and we believe in saints. I'm not sure how "the church" feels about burying statues of saints though.

bumblebee - that's brilliant! She only visits a couple of times a year so I'll just put her linens on the bed (and shams and bedskirt and curtains.. blech) when she visits! The rest of the time I'll keep my stuff on the bed.

I love her to pieces but she and I are very different. I don't know what I'll do if she tries to furnish the rest of the (already furnished) room.

I'm having guest room woes. My mother calls our guestroom her bedroom - it's her little joke. Anyway, she bought new linens for the bed and they're horrible. She thinks they're just beautiful and I don't have the heart to tell her that I hate them. I'll use the linens but I'm happy that I don't go in that room very often.

Our Staffordshire Terriers (pitbulls) bark and we don't really correct them until we see who is at the door. They're the sweetest, most loving dogs and it would take a burglar exactly 3 head scratches to make lifelong friends but we don't advertise that. So far, we haven't had a problem in a neighborhood that is going downhill fast. Honestly, we don't expect them to protect our valuables. I would rather they hide so they don't get hurt or stolen.

We also have a security alarm and deadbolts and rosebushes planted in front of most windows (they don't hide the window but anyone trying to get in will get at least one thorn in them).

I had to have my Siamese cat, Skye, euthanized on 5/20. Her kidneys failed and my poor vet did everything she could to save her. We had Skye cremated and her ashes are in a little tin.

Skye wasn't a particularly affectionate or friendly cat but she was with me for 10 years. I couldn't figure out what to do with her ashes but I love the idea of mixing them in a stepping stone. Zoo Askew - that's such a great idea.

Having lived in a haunted apartment, I feel for you. We heard a grandfather clock chiming, kitchen chairs slide across the tile floor, a pipe organ, voices.. the list goes on and on. We never felt threatened but I used to bargain with her. I would tell her that she could make all the noise she wanted on the weekend if she would let us sleep peacefully during the work week. I don't think it ever really worked.

Our solution was to steel our nerves and deal with it. We loved everything about the apartment and figured that our "Miss Mary" only made things more interesting.

Do you really think he would put the mouse in something without airholes? Seriously?

Monika - it's a great name. I would name my first-born daughter Tallulah if I hadn't had a mouse by the same name.

aladywhoknows - your AIRHOLES comment made me laugh. It reminded me of movies that are edited for TV to replace all the "dirty" words with similar but bizarre "clean" words. Maggotfarmer is my favorite.

We once ended up with a pet mouse, Talulah. Then another, Dexter. And yet another, Bad Mouse. We had genders all wrong and Dexter gave birth to 6 little wiggling babies. They were very cute but 9 mice? Too many. They all went to a local pet store except Talulah. She went to the big mousehole in the sky surround by people who loved her and fed her popcorn and peanut butter.

Cleaning my mop-able floors on my hands and knees - with a bucket of vinegar/hot water and an old t-shirt - is the only way to get my floors looking and feeling clean.
