Over at arcadecontrols.com, one can learn how to actually build their own machine using a PC, an old arcade cabinet, MAME, and either regular parts or parts and electronics specifically designed for this purpose. The possibilities are endless; depending, of course, on the amount of money spent. I put together my machine ten years ago (it's since been dismantled, but a link to the site is on the Wayback machine, linked from the site above. It was called Video Invasion 2001) and it was a lot of fun. It helped that I was in the amusements business, though... :)

Sorry... no allegiance to Apple, or any company for that matter. I just call it as I see it, and I see an issue that is common in other phones as well, being overblown just because it's Apple. While I admire Apple for being a very well run company (as far as my stock and I can tell), the constant snipes at them because they won't toe the line are getting pathetic and ridiculous.

This is not the Apple of 1996. The company no longer has a mediocre mentality and it pisses off the companies (read: all of them) that do. Success always breeds hatred and jealousy.

Funny stuff! The entire antenna issue has been overblown by both competitors, the lying scum-sucking mainstream media, and those who wish that Apple would be run like a normal, lame, poorly-managed business...

A non-story that was blown up into epic proportions. Many phone exhibit the same behavior if held the same way. Only it was Apple that put out a phone, so out come the turfers and jealous Apple haters with their self-esteem issues.

I've seen similar clocks around over the years, but they were (I'm sure) quite a bit cheaper in build and lower on features than these are. I've got a "bondi blue" alarm clock that matches my Rev A iMac, and it only shows the time...

I run a PC repair business for a little side cash, and just gather everything up and list it on Craigslist for free. The stuff is usually gone within a couple of hours.

What I can't give away, I drop at the computer recycler in the area...

Your mom is not a Mac. She's a mom. Microsoft and their advertising agency have totally twisted the meaning of the characters in Apple's now-defunct Get a Mac ads. The two actors are meant to represent a physical Mac and a physical PC, respectively. In a pretty shrewd move, they mangled the representation of the two characters to mean actual people; playing on the tendency of humans to label each other. Unfortunately for them, they mostly failed in that they were just preaching to the choir, in a similar way that the Apple ads did.

Reading headlines like the one in this story, however, prove that they had some effect.

I've introduced a number of people to Macs, and much of the learning curve involves the opening and closing of applications, installation and identification of purpose of specific apps, folder arrangement, and Expose/Dock/Window alignment. Other that that, they all seem to find a Mac much easier to work with, and none of them have ever paid much attention to an Apple ad.

It's amazing how discovery works when you actually show people how something operates.

I'll be springing for one of these soon. My Macbook Pro usually sits flat on my small desk while hooked to my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers, and this would free up some space.

We ditched cable a few months ago. $140 a month for TV plus internet was getting ridiculous, especially since we really only ever watched two channels. We've got cheap DSL for internet now ($20 a month for a year, $35 after that) and stick to DVDs and internet viewing.

There's another way, if you have a Mac. Just bring up the video you want in Safari, go up to Window/Activity while the video is playing, select the item in the Activity window that is still loading (i.e. "345k of 3.8Mb") and double-click it. It'll download the video to where ever you save your downloads. Then (download and) fire up MPEG Streamclip. Load the video, then Export Audio. Select the parameters you want for the mp3 and you're golden...

Grand Rapids, eh? Maybe I could stop by and check it out in person...

Just kidding, and being pseudo-creepy. But seriously, nice work. The green/white contrast is actually quite pleasing to the eye without being a clash and "pottery barn" like.
