I was using Feline Pine for nearly a year with my two giant cats and I mostly loved it, but those pellets absolutely still got everywhere because "burying" is too tame for my guys and apparently they need to kick everywhere to feel satisfied. I walk around with bare feet and those suckers hurt like crazy. I did love that it was natural and a little ent a long way, but while there was less of a cat odor the sawdust smell was pretty strong, and once the pellets broke down the powder would get tracked everywhere too.

I actually surprised myself recently by trying a crystal litter at a vet friend's recommendation because I tend to shy away from less-natural, chemical-y products, but so far it's been pretty amazing. It's a silica gel litter that is insanely absorbant, with NO smell whatsoever. After scooping the solids into the Litter Genie I just use the metal scoop to break up any clumps or wet spots of litter and it dries almost immediately. It's supposed to be one bag/cat/month but it's doing really well so far at 2-3 weeks. I've honestly just been using this ridiculous looking Lisa Frank-style brand from the supermarket: http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pet-Crystals-Litter-5-Pound/dp/B0030HO67I/ref=pd_sim_petsupplies_10

The one thing I'm confused about here is it seems like no one else uses a plastic bag/pan liner? I get if you're concerned about waste/landfills, but how are you disposing of the rest of your litter when it's done? It stops the odor seepage into the pan and is much easier to dispose of the used litter at the end of the month.

I had an interesting experience with purchasing a sectional on craigslist recently! The seller who was the most polite, courteous, helpful and reassuring (I was planning on picking it up myself) and who was the most accommodating, actually flaked out on me minutes before I was going to pick up the Uhaul and my friend who'd agreed to help me. Frustrated and not wanting to waste my day, I called back the (rather shady) seller whose offer I had just declined in favor of "the dream couch", feeling terrible that I'd wasted his time and also slightly apprehensive that it wasn't a good idea. Our communications had been weird and difficult at best, but my friend and I agreed that we'd at least go check it out and leave if anything was fishy. He turned out to live in a very nice part of town, was so patient as we arrived nearly an hour late after getting lost, and helped us carry a VERY heavy and HUGE couch down three flights of stairs! He was also sweet and very friendly in person. And now I sit on my gigantic, comfortable and perfect couch.

Hey, numbers 9, 10 and 11 all link to the same cradle into minidesk from number 9.
That said, the Rokii egg/animal is so adorable, I just love it. Design-wise it's beautiful.

What range exactly do you consider a "budget"? With loveseats ~$1200 and chairs ~$800, that's not really "budget friendly" to me.

My cell is almost always on vibrate except when I'm home by myself. Really the only person who ever calls me is my mother (all friends tend to text instead), and she is also the only person whose calls I would ever really answer if I'm with someone. I think it's incredibly rude to make or answer a phone call when you're with someone if it's not family/work-related or directly related to making plans that involve the person you're with. I'm sorry, but can't you wait until we're at least done hanging out before you make your plans for later tonight with someone else? It makes me feel like a placeholder instead of someone you genuinely want to be around. And personally, same goes with texts. I try to leave my phone in my bag and away from where I can feel it vibrate so I'm not tempted to read/answer texts when I'm with someone, and I do feel offended when someone is constantly reading/writing texts while we're together. I feel like it's saying that you're not really invested in the time you're spending with the real, live person in front of you.

I think I'm just irritated now with smartphones in general. I hate that I feel addicted to my iPhone, but I really can't stand what this constant connection to technology is doing to my generation and younger. Cell phones need to be off and away during classes. Cell phones need to be off and away at work. It's infuriating.

I'm the one person who may be the other way around! I want a "fat" mirror rather than a "skinny" mirror. I'm 5'10 and very slim, with a very long torso, and while I love the way my proportions look in my home mirror, I'm usually horribly depressed to see how long and skinny most store mirrors make me look, and Target is definitely the worst for that. The guest bathroom at my parents' house though actually has the most accurate and clear mirror that I've ever seen, and it's always a healthy boost of normalcy to see my reflection in it.

I'm all for encapsulating and ingesting the placenta, though I do find the teddy bear itself creepy. But how on earth is this "privileged american hippie indulgence"? Repurposing something that came from your body and that would have made its way to the incinerator at any modern hospital as a "waste product" is somehow bourgeois now?

You know, I never watched the show Little House on the Prairie (I've always been one of those who can't stand when filmed stories differ from the original books) but I loved Pa Ingalls in the books for sure! And Carl Winslow is a great addition, I really grew up with Family Matters.

That's similar to angel biscuits, but without the buttermilk, which makes them so much better! This is a simple angel biscuits recipe: http://southernfood.about.com/od/biscuitrecipes/r/bl30626j.htm

Delicious, and a holiday staple in my family.

Mary @ theECLECTIClifestyle.com: Do you realize that agave nectar/syrup is actually about 92% fructose? That's a higher level than even HFCS. High levels of fructose ingestion can result in hyperinsulinemia, or too much insulin in the blood, which is dangerous for diabetes type II sufferers. Stevia, on the other hand, may be a better choice, as it's been indicated to possibly raise insulin production, but tests are still being done to find a recommended dosage.

RyanTimes: Your perception of the differences in the HFCS vs sugar soft drinks is totally strange to me, because as an American my perception of their tastes is completely the opposite. Drinks made with regular sugar (like Mexican Coke: http://www.lifeofjustin.com/mexican-coke-3043/) taste and feel "smoother" and less harsh than regular American soft drinks (even the difference between Mexican and American Coke). It even tastes sweeter- like the reviewer mentions, the American version even has a more bitter tang. Now having said that ... I do sometimes reach for regular Coke rather than other soft drinks when I do actually want a less sweet drink.

Anyone know where those curtains in the second picture are from? I feel like I've seen them before, but I've been on such an exhaustive search for the perfect mustard yellow curtains and duvet cover that I can't remember what I've seen anymore! These would be absolutely perfect.

Their home by the way is so inspiring. We may not all have the type of space they do (and in fact, I prefer less space), but they have so much personality in every area, and I just love the abundance of modern art. Nicely done.

I couldn't figure why I a) could never fall asleep at a new partner's home, or why I would wake suddenly and constantly, and b) why my stomach seemed to make so much noise sleeping at their place and never mine, for the longest time, and it was really starting to bother me! I had noticed that none of my past partners had oscillating fans at their places, but it still took me a while to figure out that that simple fact was it. I had originally started using an oscillating fan in my new apartment since we're right by a retention pond with a fountain (and noisy frogs!) and a busy six-lane road, and I needed a consistent layer of noise to sleep, but now I realized that I just can't sleep anywhere without that particular blanket of noise! I can't even sleep in my own lovely bedroom without that fan on, and damn if it isn't getting cold here at night ...

I'm skeptical of a white noise machine, because I'd have to hear the noises first and be able to return it if it didn't do the trick.

I can't comment on how often a child might use it, but I can say that I definitely have fond memories of mine from my childhood, and it wasn't anything more than the very plainest wooden version. Granted, my brother and I were very lucky to have had a large upstairs playroom where our multitude of toys were kept, but I know that if I have the space for it to at least live in a corner that I'll have one for my kids. The only caveat to that is that the more I think about it, the horse may have belonged to my father as a child, so maybe that contributed to my using it so much.

Well, the Smiths did famously have an album titled "The Queen Is Dead", and Morrissey is well known for openly criticizing the Royal family and Parliament et al. I don't think Her Maj would have wanted anything to do with him being associated with the Royal Mail.

So, America! Here's looking at you, kids ...

I just repainted my bedroom walls from robin's egg blue to a very, VERY dark grey with tints of brown and plum (Intellectual by Behr- really just a touch warmer than black). I adore it, and repainted my doors and trim glossy white to add extra contrast and lightness. After rearranging the furniture too, the room actually feels bigger than before, but the one (fairly obvious) thing that I just didn't think about before painting- the near black walls absorb so much of the light that comes in! This isn't so much of an issue before noon or at night, but it's a bit unsettling during the afternoon compared to how much light there always was before from my giant triple-size window. I still love the look, however, and will gladly paint other rooms black in my next apartment, and probably the bedroom actually black if I have wood floors. I'll just be prepared for the change of light!
