I love the front of the house in the dark charcoal color. I think everyone can basically agree that the profile of the house from the backyard is destroyed, however. If it's functional for them, that's great! It does look slapdash.

The interiors are great, overall. I applaud anyone who can make the interior of a Victorian work for them in this modern age. If that means moving/removing walls, updating all the appliances/fixtures, then great! Most of the Victorian charm (in my opinion) is from the street view anyways, and it looks like they have preserved that.

What strikes me most about this home is how incredibly calming it all seams. Nothing feels fussy or overplanned, which makes for a great, relaxing pad. Probably also in large part due to a great use of neutrals and earth colors.

Regarding the bathroom tiles -- aquamarine and yellow -- they are just fine in my book. Before I did my bathroom remodel, I had (shudder!!!) the same tiles, from the same era, but in pink and burgundy! It was unbearable. His bathroom colors are pleasant, at least.

I think it's great when the residents comment on their posts as it's a great forum for answering questions, providing information not in the article, etc.

Oh yes, and to acknowledge what everyone else is saying, this guy is drop-dead gorgeous.

Who wouldn't love all that space? The furniture selection and wall divider additions are very nice and give it a great vibe.

I have purchased 3 replicas of iconic furniture that were manufactured by Alphaville (Nelson bench, Noguchi table, and Jacobsen's swan chair). I, for one, am very happy with the quality. They are all over 5 years old now and holding up fabulously with no signs of wear. And yes, I've seen the originals and frankly (maybe I don't have a discerning enough eye for detail?) they look and feel the same to me.

So... I can vouch for quality of pieces made by Alphaville.

That said, I have seen some really shabby knock-offs of iconic pieces by other companies... ones that, upon immediately looking at and touching them, and using them, i could tell were flimsy and made of cheap materials. It depends on what company you get your replicas from.

Now... if you are talking about replicas of pieces by living designers, designed in my lifetime (last 30 or so years)... maybe I would feel a little differently. I do think they should benefit financially from their original designs.

Your taste in furniture is very much in line with my own. Every piece looks great! And the color palettes chosen for each room SING! Nothing but praise!

I"ve never seen an oranger Verner Panton ball lamp like that before and it is a very awesome piece! The knitted throw is nice because it reminds me of one my great grandmother knitted for me when I was a young child. My favorite piece is that gorgeous large painting over the couch -- breathtaking! Good job on it all, it's a fun journey!

Hi all, Greg here.

"Turkeylurk" -- it's funny you mentioned that re: living room. That is totally a reflection of my changing tastes over the last 5 years! The living room was the first one we focused on furnishing/decorating. At that time, I was completely into modern style and was planning to do our entire home in that style. As the years went by, my tastes changed and I was leaning more towards Art Deco, which is where I've been at for the last 2 years! Keen observation.

"Mosaicwench" -- yes I was not a fan of wallpaper either, I thought it was old-fashioned. Until... I started exploring further. There are so many wallpapers that are chic, sexy, and suit every taste out there. So we went for it!

Thanks again all for the mostly positive comments. Greg here. Some more responses:

"guerilla" -- 'QueenoftheFall'? Sorry, don't get the reference. Are we queeny? Perhaps, a bit at times.

"Googie" -- the sofa was purchased from a SF company that is now out of business. We had to return the couch twice (to LA! where it was manufactured) because of problems with the upholstery. Were they still open, I would not have recommended them. Lesson learned, go with a reputable company that can vouch for quality and has a good return policy.

"Sally305" -- not sure why the living room falls short. We designed a custom media center, custom bookshelves, couch, etc. More planning & work by us went into that room than any other. I respect your opinion of the design aesthetic if it's not to your tastes.

If any of you plan to hire an interior designer for your bathroom, I can vouch for ours. She (and the contractor, too!) did a great job and met all of our expectations and demands.

And yes I have an obsession with collecting Wonder Woman figures. Although, you will see a few other heroines on display besides just her if you look carefully. Vampirella, Buffy, Isis, and Elektra Woman, for example.

Hello everyone and thanks for your kind comments. This is Greg, one of the two owners of the house.

In answer to question from "Village", we don't have a toilet in the main bathroom area. The two bathroom spaces (main and vanity) are adjacent, however. It is an old 1938 property and originally the bathroom had just a toilet in the smaller room, with a door pass-through between the two spaces. For the remodel, we decided to divided them into two entirely seperate spaces (the door was just plain ackward) and put a small sink in there with the toilet. I also waffled about whether or not we needed a bathtub after the remodel. However, in the years we lived there before the remodel, we never once used the old bathtub. Our old shower was in a different area than the bathtub so... the bathtub was taking up valueable unused space. I would further add that we live on a top floor with no elevator, and only one bedroom. Therefore, this would rule out a family with kids, or older person (both of to whom a bathtub might be essential) from ever living there. So we ditched it entirely -- and are very happy about it!

Her style is absolutely 100% to my taste. The bedroom is my favorite and in fact is very close to the direction I'm heading in with my own bedroom. The floor to ceiling curtains make the room look really tall (a nice touch).

There are many aspects of this place I like. First: the mannequin is so awesome, I'm very tempted to copy these guys on that one. Second: the continuation of the tree silhouette from the hallway, into the bathroom with the shower curtain, is fantastic! Third: they have a great collection of accessories and art vignettes, which makes this place feel cozy... that is the one thing my partner and I are missing in our own home, is more accessories and art. Fourth: the tall narrow tables behind the couch are great at demarcating the space. And Fifth: these guys are very easy on the eyes! Good job, gentlemen.

The collection of vases on the wall in the dining area is so attention-grabbing! I love the nightstands in the bedroom (I have something almost identical in my own so it goes without saying). They lend the room some real glamour. I wish I had a private backyard space like these gentlemen... envy envy envy.

I really appreciate all of the artwork on display. It's a personal touch that can immediately spark conversations when visitors arrive. With the glasses on display in the kitchen, the message is "we like to spend time with our friends and are always ready to offer them a drink when they arrive". This is a good thing. The arch above the entryway into the kitchen is calling out for some collectibles or display items.

This place is masculine as all get-out. It has a sense of historical context to it with all of the amazing accessories and architectural pieces that Tim has collected. A pleasure to have a peak into his personal space. I'm impressed with the amount of work he must have done to collect all of these treasures. I can imagine a party here... people would be just gawking at all of these items. The combo of brick, worn wood, and metal finishes on many of the pieces is so hot!

These guys are rocking it, looks-wise (!!!) and design-wise. They appear to have collected a lifetime's worth of home accessories and art. As one who has a hard time committing to bringing knick-knacks into my own home for fear of cluttering the space, I applaud their ability to bring all these items in and make it feel cohesive.

Close-ups of book libraries always drive me crazy (photo 23), because I try to read the title of every book! Plus they always reveal some of the personality of the dweller.

John Ruggiero's bedroom is my favorite because of the charcoal wall color -- masculine as all get-out!
