The shadows cast on the floor have me in a trance. So. Many. Different. Light sources!

You could also go this route... which is quite funny since I just built one of my own, without even seeing this instructional. It's clearly based on the $400 Blu Dot Stilt Lamp but I made it and it cost me no more than $80. Some 2x2's, stain & poly, a lamp kit and shade is all it took!

This screams DIY. Specifically this from HomeMade Modern http://homemade-modern.com/ep13-geometric-doghouse which could easily be converted.

Here's my must haves:

- Lightning Bug using the cityscape sounds
- IKEA Merete Curtains to keep the light away, which I dyed pearl gray
- soft but thick sheets, got a deal on some 600ct Egyptian cotton
- a cold room, I'd say around 70-72
- warm comforter, as long as my feet stick out of the bottom

I bought a set of Picardie glasses from Costco a while back at a ridiculously low price. I did notice that one had a chip and another developed a chip later on. I contacted Duralex and a very nice woman at consumer response was extremely helpful. After I showed proof of the chips, she shipped me the replacement glasses. For such a large company, I've got to say that the attention to customer service made me want to buy even more of their products.

I love the Merete Grommet Curtains, which I got in bleached white, then dyed to a very nice pearl gray with some RIT dye in my washing machine. They dye quite easily if left in hot water for a few hours and then washed with some salt.

How about the Richards' Metal Secretary Trunk from Restoration Hardware? Yes, it's $4300, but it's so dang pretty! Every single time I'm in that store I stand and stare at it. I covet it.

I use Lightning Bug on my Android for my white noise, but I use the cityscape, which has ambulances and firetrucks as well as rain and thunder which puts me right to sleep. Just like the article says, it's also my mental cue to go to sleep and best of all, it's free.

Right now I'm using T-Mobile and have the unlimited (web, talk and text) contract free plan, which is $75 a month. I use Comcast for cable with all premium channels; internet with 30mbps down and 10mbps up; and phone, with long distance for $140 a month. I get tons of OnDemand choices and record movies through my DVR quite often so I always have something scary (or not) to watch when my beau comes over. Debating on Netflix for those things I just can't find and so I can stream onto my PS3.

I'm also putting in my vote for F.lux. It's really great and makes a huge difference.

In terms of the phones, I have a condition on Tasker (an android app) that changes the color temperature to warm around 7pm so that the blue lights aren't as harsh.

Ok.... I'm going to sound like a total jerk and maybe a tech snob in a bit... so I apologize in advance but I feel the need to share the awesomeness!

I have an Android phone and an amazing app called Tasker so I avoid all of these. When my phone is at home (pinged by GPS), placed face down, plugged into the wall, between the hours of 11pm and 5am, it turns on my white noise generator, logs me into my sleep log and puts my phone on silent, except for my white noise generator. It turns sound and vibration back on at 5am, so my alarm will not be interrupted. Automated tasks!

Another great alternative is TeamViewer. I use it to help everyone I know, and it doesn't even need installation to run, which makes it really simple for those not too technically savvy. They also have android and iOS apps, both free, as long as you don't use them commercially.

An update on my horizontal mount

It doesn't leak! I figured I'd start with the good news. The bad news is that after repeated use, and a little over a month after installation, the threading on the inside of the plastic faucet adapter seems to have become worn and will not stay on with the filter. I'll screw the adapter on the faucet, click the filter into place and once I turn on the water, it will fall off with the adapter attached! Again, it doesn't leak but the plastic adapter can't handle the weight of the filter after 1 month and a few weeks of use. It might be that the water in my area is so laden with minerals that it weighs the filter down, but one would think that the R&D team would account for that in their testing. I contacted P&G for information with a description of my problem, so hopefully they'll make sturdier adapters, because even though it falls... at least it doesn't leak!

P&G customer service is very helpful and they seem to answer all customer inquiries. They've even gone so far as sending me coupons for replacement filter units. I'll update once I have more info.

I just got the new PUR water filter and it's awesome! With the new one, there's an easy click installation and removal so you can take it off if your faucet is a bit low and you don't want to use it. You can also swivel it without breaking the seal. With the old one (picture #3), it would leak incessantly with the slightest twist.

I loved this commercial. It was so clean and I love interesting stats like that, however true those stats may be. I wonder what percentage of people who watched this commercial looked up Jaime the talking boxer or the miracle banana diet?

I probably loved it because I also loved the Royksopp video for the song "Remind me" and this student project below.

Thanks for posting it. Now I have to get other people to watch it too!
