I say embrace it. Treat the leather with lanolin or something, and continue to allow the ottoman to distress.

check your local classifieds and craigslist. i got my midcentury swedish low dresser and my credenza for $60 each from different people.

i cut my two of my samples into four equal squares and use them as coasters.

whatever height you want to hang something is personal preference, but what i think one should take away from this post is how to figure out where to place your nail/screw/whatever.

they should allow one to purchase items online then pick them up at the store, either through their own efforts or ikea staff could have your purchases already pulled and waiting, possibly for an extra fee.

if you're lucky the drywall was sparingly glued on. worst case scenario, you may have to sand/beadblast the brick. if it's completely discoloured, you could consider painting the brick white. as for the slab, you could remove the tile and have it blasted at the same time as the brick.
