When I make fried rice, I take an egg or two, and scramble them in a bowl with some soy sauce, sesame oil, a touch of mirin or rice wine vinegar and a pinch of sugar, then toss them in the pan with the rest of the rice and veggies. Sometimes I cook them separately then toss them into the pan with the rest of the stuff, it just depends on what kind of mood I am in.

I would say it probably depends on how much caffeine you drink in a day. I have been decaffeinated for about 5 years now. I cut back for a few days, then went cold turkey. It took a fair amount of advil to make it through the first week. But I went from having headaches 3-4 times a week for years to having a headache once or twice a month. I feel much better, no jitteriness or heart palpitations and I am no longer a slave to the caffeine before 10 am or instant headache. It makes traveling much easier. For me, caffeine never made me more alert, it only prevented me from sleeping. By the way, I sleep much better now too. Good Luck.

I like to add about a teaspoon of it to my fried rice. (Generally a 2 serving batch.) It is also a great addition to doctored up ramen soup. Heat up some chicken stock, add some veggies, a handful of shredded cabbage, some tofu, a spoonful of chile garlic sauce, a splash of soy sauce and a splash of toasted sesame oil. Throw the ramen noodles in and voila a super tasty filling soup for not much moolah. You could also stir in a beaten egg if you wanted the egg drop soup effect.

Making chicken stock with the leftover frozen chicken carcasses from a holiday party. Pre-roasting carrots for the busy week ahead. Chicken yakisoba for dinner tonight, and maybe I'll knock out a batch of banana muffins with the blackening bananas on the counter. Tomorrow, roasting a chicken for burritos and such, and maybe some chicken noodle soup with the stock from today...

Slice it about 1 cm thick, pat it dry and fry in a pan with a shallow layer of olive oil. Once it is golden brown, remove from pan and top with parmesan and cracked black pepper. Serve with pork chops, chicken or whatever meat floats you boat. YUM. If you were really feeling crazy, you could top it with some sauteed mushrooms in a little gravy.

I like the flavored varieties. The basil one is good. It's a great side for a busy weeknight.

Control what you can control, and try not to stress about the other stuff. Breakfast is usually manageable. Try to stick to something light or at least healthy here. Same goes for lunch. Save the splurge for dinner. Whenever we go out for dinner I always get a side salad with the dressing on the side and eat it before my meal. This fills me up a bit and prevents me from eating the whole rich/greasy meal. (most of the time.) Stick to water to drink. And if you can't control your food, at least try to get out for a walk each day.

The Martha Stewart Cookie book has two recipes for cookies in this style. I don't know how they taste compared to the store bought ones, but it would definitely give you the technique and a basic batter to start with.

I always take knives with us when going to my father in law's house if we plan to be cooking. I am amazed at the number of people who think that dull knives are safer! Crazy!

In our family, we put out pistachios. They are a little bit of work to eat, so that slows folks down a bit. Another favorite pre dinner snack is cheese pennies, a cheesy cracker made with cheddar, butter, flour and rice krispies. Very tasty. Any southern cheese cracker recipe would likely give you similar results.

I love parmesan and black pepper on my popcorn. I second the mini m&m's and chocolate chips too. You might also want to have a misto with some olive oil or some other light tasting oil to spritz on the popcorn to help the seasonings stick.

I also love curry powder on popcorn, but that may be a bit sophisticated for the kiddie crowd.
To that end though, you could throw in raisins and coconut.
