Shrimp have "feet" and squid have tentacles. I think there is much more horror in eating a chicken or pig that has been tortured for your pleasure than eating an insect full of protein and, let's face it, not much personality. I am sure when we were hunter-gatherers, we knew exactly what kind of insect was best and prepared in what ways. Grasshopper Tacos: Good Eats Or Too Many Feets? |

Believe it or not, that Cheeseburger Pie was delicious. If you take a pound of ground beef (lean) and a half pound of cheddar and divide by 6 (pieces of pie), you do not end up with a huge amount of food per piece. I used a store-bought pie crust too. I don't eat meat any more though *sigh* Retro Find: The 1971 Betty Crocker Recipe Card Library |

I use lentils instead of meat in a vegetarian pastitsio. Make a flavorful tomato sauce with lentils (garlic, bay, cinnamon, onions) and layer it with elbow macaroni and a bechamel custard sauce on top to run down and bind it together. I think some mozzarella too. It's the best!! Soul-Satisfying: A Roundup of Great Lentil Recipes |

I think of flax meal as a "fat" rather than a flour, even though it looks rather flour-y. It substitutes for oil in some recipes and I use it to get Omega-3s. I suggest it did not behave like flour in your pancakes. Why Didn't My Pancakes Cook All the Way Through? Good Question |

I don't order scrambled eggs (nor cook them for myself) because I do so love a poached egg. This recipe, however, is giving me pause. Hmm...yummm. Scrambled Egg Toast from Deb of Smitten Kitchen Breakfast with a Blogger |

Adele Davis used to make what she called "better butter" I think, where she mixed room-temperature butter with an equal amount of oil (safflower for example). Refrigerated in a glass jar, this makes a pale, delicious, light spread. I have had it as my only "butter" except for baking. Homemade Margarine: Out of the Lab and Into the Kitchen |

@sriramalka, zucchini comes in a variety of sizes, from small to enormous. I would suggest weighing them when you buy them and then you know about how much each one weighs. Recipe: Zucchini and Olive Breakfast Cake, French-Style |

@slowcrafted, have you seen crackers made from nuts? Probably at health food stores. I have a friend with celiac disease, and those are a lifesaver for her. Some pecan, some almond...all delicious. For Tomorrow's Lunch: 10 Basics to Cook Tonight |

Bobolink, the recipe says 8 servings, but this is a huge cake and very rich. I just made it for a church potluck and I would say 20 people had enough to know it was very good! (I did make it incorrectly, with more graham crackers per layer than called for, because the 9 x 13 pan holds more than the six.) I can't imagine getting down 1/8 of this cake!! Long, long ago when the world was young there was a contraption called a "double boiler." It consisted of a larger pan for boiling water, cleverly constructed to hold within it a smaller pan. To reheat pasta or anything, 1) boil water in the big pan 2) put the pasta in the smaller pan 3) put smaller pan inside bigger pan 4) heat pasta until hot and delicious enough. I wonder if you can even buy them any more. What's the Best Way To Reheat Cream-Based Pasta Sauces? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |
