I go three or four times a year--I'd actually like to go more often but, honestly, NYC summers make Brooklyn feel like a schlep from uptown. Thus, I never go without a plan. Last trip to IKEA: sixteen Tekla dishtowels, the closest thing to floursack I've found and only .79 cents.

And even after what should have been a half-hour trip, I was exhausted beyond all understanding...

I'm actually more than a little irritated--and the plan's going up $6 not $5. But it's not the money, it's the idea that Netflix has such flagrant disregard for customers who've been loyal for a very long time--long before streaming was a possibility on the site. Occasional price hikes, OK. A deliberate attempt to rifle us, not OK. What? Those with stakes in Netflix aren't going to be billionaires anymore? Mere millionaires? Why not make the decision that sometimes owners and management are the ones who must bite the bullet in favor of showing appreciation for customer loyalty. You can get up to 10 DVDs from the public library for free, so there's no way I'm paying for that from Netflix, convenience be damned. And the only thing I watch streaming is SVU, and that's gone the way of the dodo, too.

"This looks like an adobe house with a built-in niche just for sleeping."

So where is it actually...

Love it. I love the muted grays and how it looks so pulled together but totally as if a person lives there. Well done.

I, like so many others, absolutely adore this place. I live in an apt. of about the same square footage and it's not nearly as elegant even though it has good bones, too. Looks just effortless. My only real gripe (I hate having one) has nothing to do with the apt. itself or your style; it's that I wish there were at least one big shot showing the alcove in relationship to the seating area. The "big picture," yes? I assume the two areas are directly across from one another, but still.

It's a small thing. Nevertheless, a stunner.

Woops. Here's the link to Delavan's apt:

I'm in love with these, particularly 3 and 8. At nearly 6 ft. tall, however, anything smaller than an XL twin is just not possible. By the way, here are a couple of examples of just this idea from Tom Delavan. The second link, I think, is his own home and that bed might be full sized.

So what distinguishes the iPad from an iPhone? And I second (or third or fourth) the others who wondered why this isn't on Unplggd. But reading and games? OK. I hate to be a hater but it just seems to me that the emperor has no clothes...to each his own...

Love the arrangement; skip the screen. Different zones announce themselves simply by being organized, you don't need a "this is another part of the apt." screen. I like that you keep everything bright and white, but the room really could use more color. Pic over the bed is way too small, but that could be fixed by getting one of those 25 x 25 frames from PB for smaller photographs. Can't believe this is the East Village, though. It's functional and attractive.

This is fantastic, thanks. I have successfully poached an egg (though it's still a bit of a surprise when it turns out right), but have also ruined several, so the visual will definitely help with my egg poaching education.

I'm not so sure about the safety of plastic wrap in near boiling water; ditto for previously used tuna cans, which are actually aluminum not tin. But hey, to each his own.

So along these lines: do people leave the little sticker on Wusthof knives? They are quite lovely, actually, but the knife does say "Wusthof" on it if anyone cared where I got them. Besides, they get pretty icky over time if you leave them on and hand wash.

But @eastlaker: As someone who owns two beautiful vintage Coach purses, I have to disagree about Coach tags. Given that the chain is brass and the tag is leather (and, in the old days, these were both higher quality than they are now) the tag is meant to be a part of the purse that one can decide to show or not show. Most, clearly, show.

This is too fascinating! Towel behavior says a lot about a person, I think (though, it also says a lot about the size dwelling you have...who has room for a gazillion towels in a 250 sq. ft. studio unless one is, indeed, towel happy?) That being said, I have 6 towels, a couple of hand towels and several face cloths, all of equal quality (for me and the occasional guest) and the same color to match my bathroom and wash easily.

BTW @Josh: I grew up in a small house with four kids and one bathroom; combined with the "what's yours is mine dynamic," the towel I was using most days would simply up and disappear (sister took it, dog ate it, brother cleaned his skateboard with it, etc.). This attitude, for good or ill, carries into my adult life, where towels are changed every few uses (for me) and every day for guests.

That cobalt blue is to die for--same theme in my kitchen--and now that I've learned to preserve lemons, I would love to recreate my favorite chicken tagine. Even if I don't win, though, Moroccan cooking is in my future!

My Chefmate kettle died. I drink coffee, not tea. And I hate wasting the energy to boil water on the stove. This Breville is one of my top three on my Amazon wishlist.

I have a Chemex and have had one for years. It is quite simply one of the loveliest vessels. I use it for tea, though, and other beverages because the coffee the thing makes is completely void of personality. A little too "clean" for my taste, but again, I bought it for the design anyway.
