@thorndale: Here are the instructions I followed when I sanded and painted my subflooring after removing an old carpet. The results are beautiful! http://www.doorsixteen.com/2009/01/26/white-painted-floor-back-room/ Linton & Rob's Colorful Family Home House Tour |

Wow... so cozy and personal. So many AT tours seem like an impersonal amalgamation of mid-century modern that do not reflect anything of individual taste. The reiteration of this hipster aesthetic becomes blander over time like a rubber stamp used so often it has become pale and faded. It's a great surprise when AT showcases a place like this one, so full of authentic reflections of its inhabitants. Jarrett's Architectural Rental in Echo Park House Tour |

I'm not sure why people are saying you can't get silk like that anymore. My Mother gave me draperies she had custom made in exactly that style of silk weave, except it is peach colored. My family works in the textile business. You CAN get this fabric. Before & After: Vintage Bed Makeover Fit for a Teen My Old Country House |

I'm loving the breasts theme. I think it is funny that AT has so many seriously redundant house tours, and something original gets panned because it has a photo of breasts! Robert & Hannah's 'Casa Eclectic' House Tour |

ick. i can think of better ways to expand AT's horizons. featuring less known communities and cities where living is affordable, for example. featuring little known programs that help renters become homeowners. not this. no. Great tour. I much prefer homes like this one that have plentiful originality than some I see on AT that seem like variations of each other. Lisa & Piero's English Inspired Los Feliz Home House Tour |

Hmm. I'm a woman. I liked the warm autumn colors and noticed not just the nudes but masks and other representations of form (curved surfaces), as well as texture, that I found very appealing. Maybe AT readers are typically young and self-conscious but I am in my 40s and have a more nuanced response to images that elicit rigid reactions among the viewers here. The Lolita poster - at least in part - seems pointedly humorous and along with the mirror references our ambivalence about sexual beauty and youth.... we *want* to *be beautiful* and to sleep with beautiful people but as we age we also have to laughingly and lovingly embrace our imperfections and the futility of holding on to such desires. I didn't see anything objectionable here, and did see a lot that is quite African in its focus on the body. Quite Cubist, overall... @DodieGoldney: this isn't really a great space to discuss what buddhism teaches, but i'll suggest you have missed the point entirely, since emptiness is not sought as an end in itself by buddhists, nor practiced for the sake of becoming devoid of substance. emptiness practice gradually reveals our true nature as bliss (which is quite a feeling of full satisfaction and contentment)! matter and spirit are only opposed to each other in western theories of being. buddhism does not recognize this duality as valid. and while buddhism sees desire (craving) as the source of suffering, the majority of the world's buddhists are not monks, but regular folks, whose practice leads them to become aware of themselves and to be be better able to distinguish between conditions that lead to further suffering and conditions that promote happiness for self and others. @thorndale, @DodieGoldney & @kris0218: the slogan you interpret as celebrating american materialism is most likely intended to celebrate inner fulfillment. consider that the owner of the happy hippie haven teaches yoga & this homeowner embraces a balinese motif and buddhist iconography.
