@PMH1704 It doesn't appear to differ at all and it's a shame. I love the Withings Scale, but there are some additional thing I wish it did. FitBit is simply tapping into their existing FitBit Ultra user base without innovating at all. Weak.

Same as Nerves, this is why I've got all of my DVDs (and CDs for that matter) ripped onto a network drive(NAS). The nieces and nephews can play with and destroy the cases, but the media is safely stashed away.

I have some additional food for thought on the HDTV vs. Projector argument. Projector bulbs(lamps) are expensive... like really expensive. My buddy has a rather nice 720p projector that he bought in the $1500 range, and every 12-18 months he needs to buy a replacement bulb that runs between $300-400. So once you've made the initial investment, you must continue paying to use the projector as the bulbs burn out. The more expensive the projector, the more expensive the bulbs and some bulbs go for nearly $1000.

After trying various running headphones, the big winner for me ended up being the Sennheiser MX 85. After a quick Google, you'll see that these are "Twist to Fit" which means they fit very snugly in your ears. The downside is that your ears may be uncomfortable for the first few runs while adjusting to the buds, but this discomfort is really a testament to just how difficult it would be to shake them loose. They come with various rubber 'knobs' so you can find the right fit for you.

Also, since this is an ear bud, and doesn't enter the ear canal, you can hear any sounds around you. The cord is thick and rubberized, but doesn't resonate "thumping" like the author mentioned above. As a bonus the whole thing is highly water resistant. While I wouldn't recommend swimming in them, I have run in the rain, and rinsed my sweat off them many times without negative effects.

I like the idea of the a la carte model in theory, but as kts911 mentioned the current model is built around the subsidization, so it's unlikely anything will get cheaper. As a fellow sports fan, I think the ideal would be for all the national leagues (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, NCAA, etc...) to make ALL games avaliable via live streaming through their own online delivery systems. NBA, and MLB TV are taking a step in the right direction but it needs to be fully featured, and included ALL the games. If that happened, i would cancel my cable, but i'd be willing to pay MORE for just the sports if I could have them on all my devices; TV, Phone, and tablet.

Me too. During these Chicago winters it's nice to be able to watch some TV from my bed. Especially good on lazy weekends, or sick-days when you just want to be comfy and warm, and still sneak in some How I Met You Mother

Before I built a custom machine for my home theatre, I used an old laptop, external hard drive, and an s-video cable as my media center. It was the perfect set up since it was slim and discreet. Plus, I could still use it as a normal laptop if needed.

I certainly agree with the pointing devices, especially the "Magic Mouse" is a pain-in-the-wrist. It's a novel concept, but after a few hours of use, the novelty wears off.

As for the Apple TV, it is an interesting segment to try and target which is probably why Apple has taken their time in updating it. Microsoft has been experiencing similar pains with it's Windows Media Center software, which it is mostly utilized by "enthusiasts" and "hobbyists". From a business standpoint it doesn't make sense to invest time and energy into a product that only a handful of your audience will use. As one of those "enthusiasts", I think that centralizing media in-home is essential, and both Apple and Microsoft have some catching up to do as Boxee and XBMC fill the void that they left.

I only use them when eating hot and sour soup... kidding. I really only use them when eating Sushi, Chinese, and Vietnamese food. Other awesome Southeast Asian foods (read: Pad Thai) are best left to a fork IMO.

I think that individuals should never be allowed to use jammers. People would abuse them to no end.

However, I believe that restaurants, theaters, and the like should have the right to install jamming devices on the premises. As most people are aware, despite the many reminders to silence your phone at a theater there is always some joker who feels he is the exception to the rule.

It's important to remember that there was a time before cellphones, so if you can't use your phone during a movie it shouldn't be the end of the world.

I enjoy having a media center PC because it eliminates the need for me to store all my media. I simply ripped all of my DVDs and VHS tapes (yes, really, VHS tapes too) and then put everything in storage. Now I can watch any of the media I already own, plus Hulu, Netflix or any other cloud-based video services. Yay!

I think Kaete is spot on that this is perfect for someone with immunity issues/heath problems. In the commercial they claim that it holds ANY type of paper towel, and maybe it's just me but that machine doesn't look tall enough for my beloved thick Bounty rolls.

Bigger != Better.

My first apartment was shared with 3 other dudes, and was a very large place. Then, I moved into a large 1 bedroom by myself. Only then did I realize that I didn't have nearly the amount of stuff to fill that place and it always felt too empty. Now I live in a very small 1 bedroom and it's very comfortable and has a cozy feeling. It's not cluttered, just,well... filled out.

For the techie these would rank up there:

1. Have Cat6 wires run through the house and a port available in each room. Wireless is great but wired networking for stationary computers still reigns supreme.

2. Install electrical outlets that have a USB ports in them also. I have a few of these and it's awesome not needing the adapter.

3. Dedicate a closet as a central "media hub". Base all of your modems, cable boxes, media servers, home theater equipment, etc... out of this closet.(preferably climate controlled) That way you can easily have all of your media available in each room that has a television, with the help of an "extender" (xBox) or cheapy computer.

First, there is nothing "scientific" about Kummer's "experiment". He bought some food from different stores and invited his own friends over for dinner. Big whoop. Such a small sampling cannot be taken seriously.

Second, as someone mentioned previously if Walmart is selling locally grown crops, then the local farmer's market, or local grocery stores are going to take a hit. Those products are making it to market currently, so when Walmart takes over what happens to those other distribution channels? This is, of course, assuming that Walmart has left any other distribution channels. The small town I grew up in, for example, no longer has ANY mom 'n pops left. The hardware store, local grocer, auto parts store, pharmacy, liquor store, and pet store have all been forced to close their doors because they just can't compete.

Personally, that last bit is enough to keep me from ever shopping there. And for those that argue that I'm missing out on low prices consider this:

I shop at 3 places. Trader Joes for my kitchen staples like pasta, wine, olive oil, etc... Jewel-Osco for other various needs, and a weekly farmers market for fresh produce. I've done quite a bit of research on what items are cheapest where, and I doubt that you'd spend much less at a mega mart. Sure, it takes more time and effort than making one stop at Walmart, but when you have principles you fight for them.

I recently got a humidifier because my building is kept very warm, and is ridiculously dry. Here is a picture of it. I really like its look, and even though my apartment is more mostly vintage furniture, it still fits in well.

I really like the lighting, but not in this room. The organic form of the lighting "fixture" clashes with clean lines of the rest of the room and makes it feel sloppy.

For our group, it's the biggest TV that decides who hosts. However, recently a friend of mine got a projector but his living room only seats 4 people comfortably. So, as fun as it might be to watch the big game on a high-def big screen, we may just have to settle for a smaller (42") screen with ample seating.
