can you mount the tv and get rid of the huge stand?
if not, maybe you can get a smaller stand that is a different color (or paint the stand a different color). i think the huge massive black object ---meaning all of that, not just the tv ---is too distracting.

i've seen people just paint a large rectangle or stripes on the wall behind that look cool. you don't really want/need miuch artwork behind the tv anyway since you're usually facing that way just for the tv.

but if you can't do the mounting or getting a new tv stand, i would recommend just changing the paint color behind the tv, or framing it somehow with paint.

not crazy about that as a rug, but i love looking at it in a photography book or email forward.

it just wouldn't fit with my vintage/antique decor. but would look awesome in a more modern home!

books in the fireplace!!! i love it! such a great idea to fill the space in a sealed off fireplace! we used ours for record storage but it didn't look quite right since they weren't tall enough. i love this!

i like it. i just would be sure they were secured...something bumping the wall will send them all crashing onto the soon-to-be tie-dyed floor. (which could be cool I guess...)

I wouldn't put it in my own, but it would be a good conversational piece in someone else's :)

I think it's really cool.

These don't look like Knoll. It might help to send this picture to a few different showrooms that sell furniture (like at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago) and ask them if they know the designer or have any similar pieces.

Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Identify These Chairs?

i can't answer this survey because i hate slipcovers for chairs. these are nice chairs, i think if a chair is ruined it should be repaired or replaced. This looks like a caterer at a wedding set this up. They need to be ironed as well.

That sounds nasty, but I just really don't like slipcovers for chairs. But for those that do, I would agree that the sheer looks better than the opaque so you can still see the design of the chair underneath.

hey! i had the same problem. i have a 27" flatscreen on a little cabinet against a huge wall. i got these shelves from ikea and they look awesome next to it. i can use them as DVD/cd storage next to the tv. ($50)

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80073163

also i really like the person's idea up above to horizontally hang a branch. i think branches make beautiful decorations in a home and you don't need to take care of them like regular plants (which is good for a person like me).

can also try something like this (could try corn starching fabric to make same design if you don't want to use coffee filters. personally, i don't really like the filters)

but i agree it definitely needs something.

white or pale grey. no color, you have enough color on the floor for the whole room. cool idea for wood floors though!

Apartment Therapy Boston | Good Questions: Wall Color for Patchwork Painted Floor?

you should leave it as is! with bookcases, standing lamps, bed, etc in front of the walls, it should break them up enough.

just do something with the white accent wall to draw attention to that. the white draws too much attention to the other walls. Maybe try putting the fabric on the white wall instead.

the wood panelling is beautiful!!

i think it's nice to have that extra countertop! i would switch the dryer and the washer around so you can have the flat top of the dryer.

You could always grab a piece of wood and paint it and plop it over them when they're not in use. You can use them for fruit bowls, wine storage.

it's a strange concept to have the laundry in the kitchen, but you can make it work and i'm sure you'll learn to love it!
