i, too, just learned about this! it's amazing how fast they grow and as long as you change the water every few days, they dont really get that "slimy" feeling.

i think wolfwhitman was using those as examples, not indicating they were in the actual article. the title of the post is "taco shaped steamed buns" and then presenting it as a new idea. i'm probably (definitely) reading too much into it and i'm positive this wasn't the writer's intention, but it does sliiiiiiiightly come across as if the restaurant saw a taco shell and thought "wow, we should totally do that". i wouldn't label a post about tacos saying "look at these bao shaped tortillas".

@hoovesnheels.. there is probably a lack of natural light because it's dinner time and the sun has probably already gone down.

agree DCarl1, even if you take out the homemade grenadine, i could not make any of these drinks with things i have around house. grapefruit juice, bitters, vermouth.. all things i have bought maybe once in my life and do not keep on hand.

If prices do start rising, then you can forget about most families eating farmer's market veggies and fruits. Reading past posts, everyone's argument for the average family not being able to afford "fancy" organic produce was that it was still affordable if you shopped at a farmer's market. If it costs $3.50 for a sweet potato, is it ok now for those of us who cannot afford it to buy from regular supermarkets? I'm not saying it's not worth it, but at that cost, it's definitely considered a luxury. As much as I would like to support local farms, I would also like to be able to support myself.

i love hot pot and am very excited the weather is accomodating for it now. you don't even need an amazing broth to start with, as all the meats, seafood and veggies you cook in the broth will flavor it. in my family, we always cook the vermicelli last so we can finish off with a bowl of noodle soup :)

Not trying to be snarky, but I honestly do not know what is bad about HFCS? Or I guess, what makes it worse than table sugar, etc? I get that it appears in a lot of processed foods, which leads to obesity, blah blah blah.. but you could say the same about things containing any type of sugar. Are there any scientifically proven facts that it is worse (ex. table sugar makes you gain weight but HFCS makes you grow a 2nd head, etc)? Or is it just the politics of it that make people avoid it? Honestly curious.

@dinomike.. this post is a part of a series of "my first apartment" posts by the bloggers on apartment therapy.. so i guess the point is just to describe their first apartments, boring or otherwise

yes, the title is very misleading. do some of these homes even belong to students? maybe i missed it, but 3 and 10 don't mention that they are students, 5 belongs to someone who used to work and went back to school, and 9 belongs to a student who happens to be living with his attorney girlfriend.

i didn't live away from home until after i already graduated and had a job. four years later, even with never having any student loans to pay back, i still can't afford some of these things. or maybe i could if food and a mortgage payment (which is not much more than when i rented) didn't matter.

off topic, but can we stop assuming that every product that comes from china (if this one was even made there) = cheap/crappy and vice versa? i'm sure many are, but i'm also sure that many cheap/crappy products come from other countries (and omg, maybe even ones made in the u.s.) as well.

@ande2994, those hammocks are for lounging by the pool.. not sure why they called them sculptures. i agree that the ace hotel is beautiful though, although somewhat like living inside an urban outfitters..

@SewTrashy, if you judge me (whether out loud or in your head) for eating my "crap" mcnuggets and processed french fries.. then yes, you are a food snob.

if you'd rather not partake in fast food, but are indifferent to people who do, then you are just a person with their own preferences.

i think its the judging that separates the lover of food from the food snob, regardless of what the judging is about.

can i say "judge" one more time?

what is with all the laminate hate? "i would rather walk on broken glass". really?

i don't know, i have laminate floors and they seem fine. my old house had hardwood floors and yes, they were nicer but the difference in price was out of our budget.

i like everyone's refinishing the concrete idea, but if you are set on laminate, i don't think 2 different shades would look bad unless you were going for the exact same shade and it was off by a little.

then again, i have zero design experience so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt :)

I would "pay a little more" for something hand made, but I think the cost of this is more than just a little. While it looks great and I'm sure a lot of time went into creating it, it's still hard for me to justify spending $60 on a trivet.

I like Pacific Sales for appliances.. we bought all of our appliances there after all the ones in house unexpectedly died. prices are good and all came with free delivery. I believe the fridge and stove came with a free install as well. Our house is a little weird, as you have to go up a flight (with a turn in the middle of it) of stairs to get to our actual living area and they managed to bring all the appliances without so much as a complaint. There were a couple of dings to the paint, but really, it was minimal compared to what I expected.
