straight white vinegar should kill anything. Salt if it is somewhere you don't ever want something growing.
or fire for the most fun! (there are weed-specific fire throwers of sorts out there)

also --
I need that in-drawer knife block! I have been keeping my good knives in the cardboard sleeve they came in since i don't have the counter space for a block. That thing is brilliant!

here are my thoughts on a pastry cutter: grate your butter with a cheese grater. smile at your genius in multitasking your handtools.

I feel like assignment 2 is going to be ongoing -- I keep running across crap that I guess was invisible the first time around (isn't it weird that sometimes you just don't see the things you don't use anymore?)
kiwi knife anyone? still in the wrapper!

I fear getting very behind this week due to real life (work) but the special project is finished! I got a little obsessed and it had to be done and ooooooooh it is so beauuuuutiful.

happy scrubbing all!

I have an entire (skinny!) bookshelf of them, too (okay one shelf is knitting books). They do not live in the kitchen because unless they could go into a cabinet (ha. someday.) I think they would get too dirty in there.
I have about 10 I've bought myself. The rest are gifts and many were my grandmother's, so those I shall never part with. Whenever I think I have too many I consider my mom -- I think she has WELL over 100 and then decide I can keep them all.

cheese: always cheddar and parm or romano, probably something else just for snacking.
milk
like 5 kinds of mustard
pickles -homemade :)
a million jams and jellies
salad in the spinner which takes up a lot of space but it keeps so much better.
csa veggies-of-the-week
hummus
prosecco which is always left over from the easter beforehand. I really need to fix that.

@aneelee I'm thinking of doing the pantry/dish swap too, let me know how it goes :) It makes me (irrationally) nervous. I say this like my entire kitchen is bigger than 2 steps from everything else...

I cleaned the fridge and freezer (I didn't think I needed to clean the freezer... WRONG, pesto from 07 hiding in there)
which was super satisfying. Started the pantry areas and they need some serious reorganization and more cleaning but are at least all edible things now. Everything that has been around too long but is still edible is now on the counter. Eating it this week or it is outta here.

Or maybe just put the chicken directly on your oven rack and the potatoes in a pan below it and spend zero dollars.

I'm not sure it is much leaner if you intend on eating those potatoes...

I also have a decent sized kitchen in Astoria, NY (hi neighbor lovinart1!). Well decent sized for an apartment I guess.
I have too much crap stacked on top of other crap which makes getting said crap out or later put away a royal pain-in-the-tooshy. So I want to fix that. I also need a deep cleaning.
and because the landlord is basically a big confused company with no standards, my cabinets don't make it all the way to the wall. so there is this abyss, about 6" wide and counter deep, that needs some serious plugging up. I'll post pics somewhere eventually. I need recommendations.

I have a similar setup at home (without the high-tech factor of course), I have standard terra cotta pots with trays under them just like a regular ol house plant would, so perhaps there is something built in? Could be gravel at the bottom to hold the extra too and there is a wetness sensor or something?? Anyhow, I like but don't understand it -- I like taking care of my plants!

hey sophielynn: I have a very similar one that I got at target. it is 12" square and fits in the odd space between my stove and wall. It has 2 drawers and a shelf and is very very useful.

I'm a member of two coves community garden in Astoria. I plan all kinds of exciting veggies on my 100sq ft! It is a great way to meet neighbors and swap veggies. I've grown grape tomatoes in a 3 gallon pot on my fire-escape with great success in the past, it is possible and you will feel very powerful!
