Love love the bed cover! I'm such a fan of light blue and red together...

At first I was kind of like, oh noes wood paneling in the dining room. But then I kind of like the retroness it gives. Are you wanting to eventually update that? If it's kind of a temporary thing, kudos. A lot of people would be intimidated by that much wood paneling.

The only criticism I can give is that the living room doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the house. It seems a little too... boring, or typical middle class American living room. Love the rest of it though.

I am also moving this weekend and also disassembled my ikea bed using the manual and going backwards.

Sorry, some of us can't afford to shop anywhere but Ikea and thrift stores. And after six months of my mattress being on the floor and not finding a bed frame I liked at a thrift store, Ikea it was.

I lived like this for 3 years. I lived on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh and have Verizon... for three years I would run to the kitchen window at the very back of the house, usually miss the call, then spend the next few minutes attempting to find the sweet spot that would let me call the person back...

It turned into a game, because sometimes you would discover a sweet spot somewhere else in the house... usually it would only last a few minutes and then click, call was cut off.

Cell service at home is definitely something you take for granted until you don't have any...

That bedspread is from Urban Outfitters about 4 years ago... or at least that's when I got mine. I was happy to see it here, even though I haven't used mine in quite a while!

I bought this with the same intentions of a DIY headboard:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99861533

If you use it with a boxspring it sits really high off the ground. I'm 5'6" and if i sit on it, my feet barely graze the ground. I also like the look of it and it was pretty cheap. I got that part done, now I need to finish the headboard :-/

It's always a reality check when, no matter what art you choose to enjoy, there will always be a mega snob to try to make you feel poopy about your artistic choices and likes.

That said, right on with whoever said buy what makes you happy. Life is too short and the world too crazy to judge if an Eames chair knockoff is 'tacky.' If it makes me tacky, then so be it. At least I can afford to eat AND have a lovely chair to sit in... Many of us could not even begin saving up for a 6000 dollar chair. Just because you're poor doesn't mean you can't have style. You just have to learn to ignore the snooty tooty people and learn to embrace your budgetary restraints. Makes you more creative! I've found that in interior design as well as my main job, filmmaking.

Rant over!

We celebrated Michael Jackson's life a few weeks ago by setting up a 10 ft screen in the backyard and projecting a VHS copy of Moonwalker. Needless to say, it was pretty rad and we're doing it again tonight with Wet Hot American Summer.

I'm always in the mood for a campy 50s b-movie on a hot summer night...

Yeah, after looking at the price... yikes. No thanks for that much.

My landlord is cool, just A)stuck in the 70s and B) really, really likes the colour green. My whole apartment is green appliances, countertops, doors, carpet... and all very 70s. I'm trying to make it work. Doors and walls I can paint...

"This would be a perfect solution for the renter, who's landlord thinks there's nothing wrong with a fridge from the 70's."

You just described my fridge and landlord perfectly.

What's better is that the stove matches the fridge and the counters are a weird shade of green...

This paint looks fun. It might be good for the (green) metal front door in my place.... Hmmm!

That shower looks like if you get in it, it will freeze your body and you will then unfreeze in the year 2200, and robots will rule the world and stuff.

It looks like fun though!

I'm feeling some teal accents would be really nice, but I'm a big fan of tan and teal together. It could be more of a muted teal/grey-blue if brights aren't your thing. A rug, pillows, curtains, even painting, maybe just one accent wall, would help this be a little more lively and cozy.

The dining table and the light above look really pretty, a nice classic look. Some kind of window treatment for the door/window/whatever it is by the dining table would give a little oomph to that room. Yeah, i just used oomph. I feel sad now.

Suburbs of Atlanta? So winters are usually about 50 or so for you... aka, some of the midwestern/eastern cities' winters will be a super shock to the system. That's important to consider, as are all of the other things people have mentioned.

That said, i'll give a shout-out suggestion to my current town, Pittsburgh. It's the perfect big(ish) city with a small town feel. Tons to do, lots of little neighbourhoods that feel like its own little town, not too big but not too small. I've been here 4 years and still like it a lot, and that's after living all over the place in many different cities. It's just a nice, cheap, interesting place. Rents are super cheap as are houses to buy. The job market is growing and it's one of the few places in the US not affected too badly from the economy. We're getting really involved in green spaces and buildings... crime is low. Tons of colleges around so some culture trickles its way in.

Winters can be a little rough, but nothing that can't be managed. I dunno, I love it here and am glad I've found a job so I can stay here a while longer at least!
