Ha! Im going out on a limb and suggest Formica in Rattan Cane. Although its a "wood grain plastic laminate", it isnt one that pretends to be wood and instead, uses wood tones. Get your installer to install it so the stripes run horizontally to make your kitchen look bigger. Ive never seen it installed in a house but I have seen it in commercial interiors (I am a designer) and it looks FABULOUS. Still light and airy but not boring and white! Our thermostat is behind our Expedit which is full of books and records with a space in between big enough for a hand to adjust. Works perfectly! Also love that custom wood cover! Tips for Camouflaging Thermostats, Radiators & Air Conditioners | Apartment Therapy Boston |

You could definitely use a standard circle stencil or make your own stencil and use paint pens or sharpies. Just make sure to add "standoffs" between the stencil and the wall because they will bleed like crazy. We used to use felt dots while drafting in design school to avoid the dreaded ink smear. If you're feeling crafty, you can purchase one of those generic slip covers, put it on inside out, pin it to fit, and sew it yourself. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Slipcover on this Vintage Couch? Good Questions |

Why not use more neutral colors on the walls and use the brighter punchier colors in the accents (ie: rugs, pillows, etc.)? Or each pick a color for accent walls in separate but adjacent rooms. Maybe a nice sage green in the living room for his taste and a soft blue in the bedroom for yours. Don't you just love compromise! I cant tell you how many times Swiss Coffee has helped me in a pinch picking a client's color palette. Its one of those whites that miraculously looks good with any accent color. Apartment Therapy Boston | Survey: Do You Choose Paint Based On Its Name?#comments |

From the perspective of someone who rents and isnt allowed to paint or change anything permanently... plain white is soooo boring. I get the whole "keeping it light" thing but whatever color you go with, make sure it has warm tones. Like a buttery yellow or a warm cream. Grey in a basement makes me think of cement... I'm curious too, since I am a seller on etsy. I do shop there but we started our own jewelry line because we could never find what we were looking for so we decided to make it ourselves. I think there is a huge value in getting something that is uniquely yours and I think that is what drives the DIY movement. You are supporting someone who is putting their heart and soul into a creative endevour and not just giving money to a corporation. You are fueling someone's creativity!!
