I have an armchair at home that I really like and I'm always wondering if it might be affordable to find someone who could add an attractive rocking base to it... I'm thinking like the Joya Rocker ( http://www.montedesign.net/modern-nursery-joya-rocker.html ) from monte design. Maybe that would be a workable option for you, too?

As of right now, I've spent less than the average by sticking mainly to ikea, DIYing and craigslist finds - But I also just finished university.

I do feel that unless you are either much more resourceful than I or are not interested in pieces that truly last, you need to spend some moolah. I'm actually surprised to see that some of these averages are so low - I'd be willing to pay much more than the average bed or sofa cost listed to ensure that I got a piece I love and would stand the test of time - I've found that it's more expensive in the long run to buy junk and replace it with junk than to just do it right the first time.

I'm a nurse in an NICU and I find that parents get a lot of enjoyment from decorating their babies' bedspaces. How about making or commissioning beautiful posters with each baby's name and/or birth stats on them? there is usually someplace for something like that to sit or hang near an isolette, and it makes thing feel a little less cold and a little more personal.

It's really hard to make someone's life easier from afar, especially with something as emotionally wrenching as extreme prematurity. But your friend will definitely appreciate any little gesture that lets her know that she and her babies are in your thoughts.

To those who have the lillesand (last bed) - is it sturdy?? I loved it in store but was worried it would be a flimsy mess once we put it together ourselves.

a little table centered between the two windows would look very sweet, but if you want to seat more people but not take up a load of space, what about a long narrow table that goes along the windowed wall? you know - one that's rather light and won't take up a lot of visual space or block the natural light. you could tuck a bench on the window side so it could be stored against or very close to the wall when not in use, and the chairs on the other side would have a nice view out of the windows.

After that, the living area could go several ways, but I like the suggestion best where a sofa faces the windows, and two chairs face the sofa, with the FP in the middle. Unless you plan to watch TV in that room, in which case, that layout sucks.

the stars are too cute - wish I had an Ikea nearby, I'd love some of those! (especially since we have some awesome branches in the backyard right now leftover from a storm that could use some festivity!)

it's really lovely, but I would like to see a few extra hits of those pretty purple/eggplant accent colours for some more contrast in the room.

I like the ones where red and black are accents against white and natural wood. The others I'm not a fan of.

I painted my bedroom lilac/mauve as a kid (similar to #1). I hated it within a month but wasn't allowed to change the colour again for two years. purple has never been the same for me.

However, that wall colour in #3 blows my freaking mind. I love the drama!

1) LOVE the whole fireplace vignette/setup/whatever.

2) seriously jealous of all the gorgeous outdoor spaces - kudos on those

3) I love how wonderfully considered this home feels, without being unreachable. Makes me think my house could be this pretty too, even without 'iconic design/ridiculously unique' stuff I always think it needs to have the same effect.

@Jwink, I left the skins on and they were still very waterlogged... I ended up needing at least twice the amount of flour in the recipe just to be able to handle the dough, and the resulting gnocchi tasted like nothing but flour...

Overall, this was far more trouble than it was worth!

oh, well. you win some you lose some.
