PS Do you think the Expedit bench would be stronger since it doesn't need legs?

I'd like to do this for my landing strip. Does anyone know the cheapest way to find a cushion that matches? I am also looking for a cushion for two window seats in my new apt. Was hoping to find some groovy fabric, but I don't know how to sew and don't have a sewing machine.

Thanks!

When I was in college, my friends and I had a lot of big parties. Which meant, of course, a lot of people getting the munchies at, say, midnight. Which further meant, lots of people sneaking through our cupboards to get at food, or to drink out of glass glasses. These were parties with, say, 50 people, so there were reasons we went with disposable cups and why we didn't want anyone messing with our ice cream!

We started buying these teeny firecrackers at the novelty shop, the 'party poppers' that emit an explosive pop when you pull on both ends of the string, and we'd fasten them so that anyone opening the fridge or the kitchen cupboards would make a really loud explosive charge when they tried to sneak some food.

We also left 'exploding cigarettes' in nearly empty cigarette packs -- anyone trying to sneak a cigarette that wasn't theirs got a surprise. Though this seems a little more dangerous to me now - are those legal???

Ah, those were the days.

Yeah, I agree - this looks a lot better than wrapping the windows with regular plastic!

$350 is a pretty good deal for a sleeper sofa, especially one that looks as good as this. Reviews on the Urban Outfitters site indicate that it's pretty much hard as a rock. I'm going to see if it's in the Providence store, as I'm curious to find out for myself. This is for a guest room/music studio.

The alternative is just to pile up two free mattresses and put lots of pillows on top. I'm thinking that might actually be more comfortable...

eliciamelanie, does it stop circulars from coming to your house? I recently moved from NYC to Providence, RI, and one of the things I hate is the enormous amount of promotional mail that is just dropped off at the house - grocery store coupons, etc. It's probably 90% of my 'mail'! (I don't think it's actually mailed, though). If anyone knows how to get rid of it, please tell me. I hate it!

What I really need to find is a place for mail - both incoming and outgoing. This is related to the fact that I don't really have a desk to work at - I am exploring the idea of separating my art/music studio desk from my bills and writing desk, in an effort to really define the space as a place for play. I think I will end up using my dining table as a temporary desk, but I need to find some kind of storage to keep the things in.

I also need to find some kind of coatrack.

The rest of it is largely bedroom-based, since I got used to keeping all my important stuff (keys, wallet, phone, etc) in my bedroom when I lived in shared space. It seems to work so I am sticking with it.

Hey, lifeinthefortress, I can relate. Luckily no fridge smell but I don't completely feel at home yet.

Are there any options for a chandelier if the entry only currently has a sconce, ie no ceiling fixture? I'm not sure my landlord would let me rewire.

Oddly enough, though I am a 'warm' person, my home and my kitchen in particular are both presently quite 'cold.' I think it's because I've moved to a new city and a new, much larger space, and I'm (a) holding back from committing to the new apartment, unwilling to acknowledge that I no longer live in New York, and (b) afraid that by spilling over my entire 'warm' life from its boxes, I will be messy again.

So I don't need a ton of cleaning. But I do need to buy dishes and silverware.

Hi everyone,

I somehow missed Week 0 - was there an email? So last week I did a tour of my apartment, made a list of all the repairs (some of them require the landlord), bought flowers, and started putting together style trays for each of the rooms.

About two months ago I moved into a 2BR apartment after living in a single room for several years. It's been a little strange moving into such a big space, and I realize that I have been loathe to 'mess it up' by unpacking all of my stuff. The problem is, that is feels cold and uncommitted because it doesn't have any of my stuff in it! So I am going to be working on pulling together the whole apartment, though none of it requires anything too drastic. It's basically some kind of combination of deep cure and one room cure.

Look forward to meeting you all.

Looking at the press, it looks like they are available only at ABC in the US - and that the couches are in the $4000 range. Beautiful, though.

I'm going to get rid of a whole bunch of old moving boxes that I've had stacked up in one room. I moved about two months ago and those boxes are just reminders that I haven't fully moved into my apartment yet.

Very nice. May I ask where your office chair is from? It looks a lot like IKEA's PATRIK chair, but I love the seafoam green. Thanks!

I wonder if there is a solution to that Domino photo that is a single frame, and that enables easy photo switching. I would buy several of them.

I also love the pillow in that pictures - does anyone know where that's from?
