I like the unusual layout, but the overuse of knotty pine makes the overall effect too spastic for me. There's no where your your eyes to rest comfortably.

It would be like living inside an enormous, 3 dimensional connect-the-dots.

#2 is sweeeeet! I like #3 as well, for things that can have food-to-cover contact (definitely wouldn't work with a cake).

Go Tuscon! This looks like a great place to kick back with a margarita after work.

I love all the little details of art deco, but not so much the 'big picture' look of it.

I also love well-done Victorian, but would be completely uncomfortable living in it.

This is great! I love the AT posts where simple and inexpensive solutions make a huge difference to a space.

When I was painting my kitchen, I didn't realize they had mixed the wrong shade until I started rolling. It looked good, so I kept on going - and it turned out great. Looking back at my intended color on the paint chip, I think the color I ended up with is 100% better.

Cute, but not $180 cute.

The easiest (and greenest) way to keep your floors clean is to switch over to pellet litter made of compressed pine. I have 5 cats, and no problem with dirty floors or the funky cat litter smell that comes with clay litter.

This reminds me of the kitchen shelves made of milk crates featured here a while back.

Sure, they are recycled and practical. But they just don't look very nice.

Sally305 - I agree 100%.

Even if you completely gut and refinish your bathroom to get rid of the 'outdated' and 'ugly' tile and fixtures, someone, somewhere will look at your renovation and think "wow, that's really outdated and ugly!"

Kudos to the folks above that had the imagination to work with what they had. They all look great!

This looks great, especially since my house is all tile/laminate flooring.

Did you need to sweep before steaming? Or is the product a steamer/vacuum combo?

I'm intrigued...

Cute! But I've bought my share of specialty cat beds over the years, and my cats' favorite hidey-hole? Shoebox.

Agree with bepsf and sarrazak. This is purely cosmetic 'greening' so that the owner can invite his other (super-rich) friends over and they can pat themselves on the back about how 'environmentally conscious' they are.

No single family home this size can be considered green unless it is completely off the grid. (I'd also bet that the owners drive to and from D.C. every day. Not green!)

Blah!

Rucy - It's easy! Get a nice deep piece of wood as wide as the sill, and brace it from below with shelf brackets. Cats love 'em! (You can also add a fluffy cushion.)

Cats here as well. If I tried to put anything else on the windowsill, it would end up on the floor!

I don't own anything expensive or sentimental enough to warrant not using it. But even if I did... I probably would use it anyway! I think things that are made to be used should be used, and enjoyed.
