I've created a 3D model for what I think would look great for your space. If you'd like me to send pics of it to you, email me at kateespears@gmail.com. And I'm not a spammer. i love the look of the horse trough, but all the practical issues listed about are enough to make me second-guess the idea. What if you bought a fairly cheap normal tub and put it in the horse trough. Horse trough exterior, comfortable, non-leaking, heat-keeping tub on the inside. Just an idea! In the kitchen I would paint the counters. It's very cheap and there is paint made specifically for counters. A final coat of some clear polyurethane or something similar must cure for a few days, but the final result really is impressive for such an inexpensive fix. Also, I'd change the kitchen hardware and the chandelier. I'd probably paint the walls; the living room the same color but a different hue as the kitchen. I'd also replace the railing with something a little more updated. Finally, some people totally oppose it, but I think a painted fireplace would look wonderful. Maybe if you leave the kitchen cabinets white, you could paint the fireplace white. And maybe a mantle. Good luck!! it's a great space!!! I agree with making a kids section in the bay window. I'd add a big shelf on one or both of the walls with lots of baskets for kids' toys to reduce the clutter. I'd move the two brown chairs into the living area and put them across from the couch. I believe the coffee table thing is a storage area for kids stuff. If it is, I'd move that in the bay area too. The desk might look nice behind the sofa, but it's definitely a maybe. As for everything else, I'd work on reducing the clutter. Replace some of the small clusters of pictures and photos with large pieces. And declutter, declutter, declutter! Hide as many of the toys as you can. I think with decluttering and refocusing the areas, the stove should be fine and actually add some good personality to the space. I don't love the white radiator in the stove area, so if it's not necessary, i'd ditch or move it. I love the space. it's got great potential. good luck!! I love the green of the stucco, but I think the green shutters are too much green. I'd go with the charcoal grey for the shutters or a white. But i love the shade of the green stucco and the natural wood door and white trim. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Good Questions: What Color Should I Paint My House? |

Ummm, the regular price is OVER. The sale price is UNDER. They didn't classify it by saying "Outdoor Furniture under $100 at Regular Price" so I thinks it's safe to assume they meant under $100 on sale. Apartment Therapy Chicago | On Sale: Outdoor Furniture Under $100 |

I would definitely recommend doing something else for the curtains. I don't mind the fabric or color, but the length and the fact that there is only one panel per window must be corrected. The bed feels a little low for the room. Maybe adding a nice tall headboard would give it a more regal look. I like the idea of a white headboard. If you don't want to replace the bedding, an easy spruce up would be to get rid of the purple pillows and add some silky more luxurious ones to the front with a nice white throw at the end of the bed. I'd find an nice antique looking white dresser to replace the one you've got. Then I'd ditch the bookcase thing you have and replace it with white floating shelves. Anything that doesn't go with the flow on the shelves can be stored in baskets or boxes that are a complementary color to get rid of the appearance of clutter and create a soothing atmosphere. Those are my thoughts. It's a great room. Good luck! Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Suggestions for Completing this Bedroom? |

I would start with choosing a color scheme you like. I always love green, white and brown together. Maybe with some pops of red or blue as an accent. If the walls are white, I'd leave them that way. I'd add some white sheer curtains and keep the shades up most of the time. I'd get some nice white and green pillows for the couch and chairs, maybe a couple of red graphic ones (if you were to go with that color scheme). Also, I'd get a new rug with some punch to it. I can't tell what's across from the two chairs, but if furniture can be moved there, I'd put the couch there and move the two chairs to where the couch currently is, maybe with a little table between them. Maybe fill the fireplace with lots of white candles. The card catalog thing does need to be moved. If it's going to block a window, it should at least be centered, maybe with a plant on it. The space is great so good luck with your improvements! Apartment Therapy Chicago | Good Questions: Tips to Lighten Up Living Room? |

I love the idea. I'm always using chairs as plant and book stands, and if I have a large amount of guests, we put the plants or books on the floor and use the chairs as seating. I don't think this was intended as a small space idea, just an interesting one. And if it's an antique or delicate chair, it's a good way a deterring people from sitting in it. I love the look of art draped and stacked and overlapping everywhere. It's not necessarily meant to be displayed as if you were in an art gallery. Some people just like being surrounded by art, even if the lighting or position isn't optimal. I love it! Apartment Therapy New York | Displaying Artwork on Chairs The Wall Street Journal, 3.5.09 |

I would also suggest getting rid of the bean bag. I'd put the couch across from the TV and the loveseat in front of the window. That would help open the space up a bit. The floor lamp might be better in a corner on the window side of the room. Also, I'd recommend getting a TV stand with a little less depth. Maybe a nice non-bulky chair where the loveseat is now could make up for the seating lost by getting rid of the bean bag and give it a nice finished look. Of course, some more art and a kennel cover-up would improve things immensely. And a little de-cluttering. Good luck! Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Ideas for My Living Room? |

I have a little hobby of making floor plans and designs, etc. I've made one of your place. If you'd like me to email it to you, my email is kateespears@gmail.com. I think knocking down the wall is a great idea. I love to be able to cook and see everyone. If it is a load bearing wall, putting in some columns instead of the wall could give you that openness you like. Or you could have open shelving on that wall that allows you to see to the kitchen and dining room. It's a beautiful space and definitely post after pics!
