sagekitten85, why not go for a "boob" light, or a sleeker contemporary version of such? They are flush mount and only come down about 5-6 inches. You'll be surprised what they have at Lowes. Such as this:

Workstead definitely hackable. They look like parts from a chemistry lab, when working with bunsen burner, etc. Rods or tubes connector pieces...

Is that a time-bomb on the bottom half of the clock? Is that what makes it contemporary?

This is like a traditional Japanese house -- I would paint the posts dark to match the beams. This gives order and rhythm to the space. The walls are like the Japanese screens -- non-structural, more free-flowing and configurable.

what a waste to decorate it 3 times! This one is ok but I like the previous ones more.

thorndale: Agree! (I was going to say how it's a renovation, not an addition, but the Dwell article says it *is* an addition. AT missed that point.)

I agree with the "green" improvements except for the comment about copper and pvc pipes. I don't think copper is better.

The great thing about all white bedroom is that if you ever miss/want some colour, you just have to change your duvet/bed cover -- Instant pop of colour!

So you always have the option of colour, but are never locked into one like you would be if you painted the walls.

It is pretty easy to change a light switch. Only a little harder than changing a ceiling lamp. All you need is a screwdriver and maybe pliers. Just make sure to turn the power off at the breaker panel. You can buy a nice dimmer switch at Home Depot for about $30.

Definitely do NOT put those u-shaped mats around the toilet.

Shower curtains are a great idea because they will soften the look. Just get a shower curtain rod (those spring loaded ones) and hang it above the glass door frame. Experiment with hanging the curtain just below the ceiling.

I think everything is already pretty good. The colours are earthtones and the fixtures and cabinets are clean, modern, even zen.

I would just replace the light switch with a dimmer switch. Then do what livc said, and just accessorize!

I find the taxidermy lends the place a Victorian flavour.

How is concrete no waste compared to wood? You still used wood to make the mould, no?

How about you treat the window and door separately?

Have a rollerblind or venetian blinds for the window, and some frosted film for the door.

I would also create a radiator that covers the entire wall under the window.

It's very well done Victorian.

That dragon and lanterns would be great over a patio!

They're all just one liners. Not much depth. At best, they will amuse you when you first see it. An impulse buy. But what about the five hundredth time you see it?

They continued the frame moulding on the bottom of the door. Clever.

However, I think it only works in a large room such as this.
